Best tips on Brugs

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

While it's quiet, I wondered if ya'll would want to share your best tips on Brug raising. For us Newbies, we could have it all in a nutshell, and others to come could find it easier while browsing this forum. AND maybe you wouldn't have to answer these questions again and again ...

Things like:

Type of pot and size
Soil mixtures (in ground or pot)
Use of water crystals??
When to pinch
Fertilizer
Anything else

Thanks, everyone!

violabird,
you might want to check out the info on BGI and I'm sure it will give you lots of help. http://www.brugmansias.org/siteindex.html

BGI does have excellent information. I would also recommend getting Monika's book, a wealth of information all in one place.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

or, LOL,.....as I'd recommend, visit the American Brugmansia and Datura Society Website at: http://www.americanbrugmansia-daturasociety.org/

Best of luck with your research,

Bruno

Bruno, now that's a site worth seeing! Thank you!

Kell, I sure don't blame you or anyone for being "lazy", you must get so tired of all us newbies! Which is why I suggested the above.

Please believe me when I tell you that I have been doing alot of homework on these babies. I've followed every lead ya'll have offered except joining BGI and Monika's book. It isn't that I plan to breed them, I just want to grow some well.

But I think this has done it, any newbie looking in search should now be able to see all these tips. Just looked and this "best tips" comes up first! So whether ya'll wanted to or not, you just did it, LOL!

Thanks everyone (:

Thanks violabird for asking the question--im new too and the information was great thanks everyone for the links and helping us newbies--

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

My Pleasure Violabird! I still think your name would make a great name for a purple brug..LOL

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Viola, its wonderful with all that homework you have just done to care for your babies and its also nice that you say that you just want to grow them, not to hybridize. That`s really rare meanings nowadays *l* I am glad on your behalf, because that means as well, that you are going to have a far more relaxed experience with your Brugs and will better be able to enjoy them in full. That is what I think is so wonderful :) I for one hope to learn a lot from you in that respect.

btw. Lene and I have builded a website to ad to the others. There will be hybridizing tips as well, but jump elegant over those and focus on the nice stuff. We can`t promise that all of the stuff will be new to you, but a bit maybe and then the pictures will be different from those you know by now. We will upload it in about a week on http://www.brugmansia.dk

Brilliant...Can't wait!

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Bruno, when you create that purple Brug you sure have my permission for the name, with of course, one exception, lol!

T & L, I will look forward to seeing your site as well, can't see enough of them. Now if Windsurfer? Could just get goin on that smell-o-puter!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Another site.....LOL! Well we can't have too many of them esp the ones with great pictures. I tried the link Tonny, I guess it will work next week? I do not know where you get all your energy.

Now if we could only buy from you and Monika! Is Anne Kirchner-Abel the only European that will send to the US?

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

OK Violabird, If i do, I will! LOL

Kell..Anne's seems to be the one to go for if you're looking for the newest and widest selection of doubles in all colours along with her selection of Arborea group hybrids and the peculiar upright flowering 'Bambina' and all her other latest beautiful hybrids etc. etc.

Not only that, but she's also getting ready to release her new 2003 Brug book!

We'll all be broke..LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I admit they look great Bruno, but I have had my eye on few of Monika's for awhile now that I would just die for. My night time brug dreams always are of Monika's babies. Can you imagine if you could buy one of Monika's trees, lol............ but she would have to come with it to keep it looking so incredible.............. LOL

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

violabird and cottosnag, check out this site. I hope it's helpful and will answer a lot of questions you may have.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

That is excellent information. See Vi, I told you BGI would help you out. I'd say they did a really good job.

Albany, GA(Zone 8a)

Wow..this has been a great education for me as well. I have been busy checking out all the recommended sites. My "favorites" is loaded!

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

A wonderful piece of quick-tips information :)

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

txfive, LOL, I hear you with the favorites! I had filled that up then went to my journal with more notes.

Brugie, Snow, what can I say ... you're the best! I didn't see that when I went to BGI, where was it?

Won't it be wonnerful not to be plied with newbie questions now? More room for pictures now, yeaah ;D

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

it's new viola, Terry worked last night to get it ready for show:)
it's not on the index list yet, sorry.

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Kell, Why not put in an Order with Monika and get some of those doubles into the US? You might even get a discount.LOL

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I wish I could Bruno! As far as I know Monika does not sell in the states, but even if she did, I do not have the room. I would love some of her singles! I would settle on just seeing them in person, not even possessing them. You can tell she loves her plants and what she is doing. It really shows in her life's work. You must respect such devotion and artistry!

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Emmm...Yeah, I guess so..But I was allways brought up to believe, "What you get is what you give, and what you give is what you get". My granmother allways used to say it to us! I was quite young when she died but have some fond memories of her! Do they have this saying in the US?

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

MrPlantaholic, We have a similar saying in the states :"What goes around, comes around" Which means the same as your saying....

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Hiya Nathalyn...I think I much prefer your saying! LOL

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

And another that you have probably heard and which is very appropriate here at Daves : "You reap what you sow".

:)

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm not certain I understand your post Bruno.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

I agree with your words Bruno. Very true. This must mean that because Monika has given all of us here so much by sharing her knowledge and helping us with our problems that she will get much in return. She already has our utmost respect and admiration but deserves so much more for all she has given us.
Another saying that we have here in the States is "Respect your elders".

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh, okay, I understand, sorry:)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Snow, that is such a good statement. I certainly respect Monika and have learned so much from her.

Knoxville, TN(Zone 7a)

Sorry for the confusion. Monika will surely be rewarded in untold ways for all the help that she has provided to so many.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

I guess this is why I always save pages like this, I have to read and re-read to try and understand.

Heaven ; ), Denmark(Zone 7b)

Amen!

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Snow, I agree..smile.
I just have had a phonecall with Monika, I have had some questions about pollinating special brugs.
Now I know how to do..she always is giving good advices.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

You are lucky to have her close by Ludger.

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Shirley,I am !!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I really think it is all about being allowed to disagree with someone and maybe even disagree with all your being, but then being able to both come back around together on all the things you DO agree with each other on, even if it takes a while to move past it all. You can spend all your time reliving yesterday but why bother when today can be so much better?

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Its like being married
Agree to disagree........LOL

Co.Wicklow, Ireland(Zone 8b)

Thanks guys....yeah,that's what I meant! I do like some of Monika's hybrids but I prefer Anne Kirchner Abel's hybrid quality and she's also a sweetheart!
