my arbor vitae took a beating this winter. all of them seem to have some sort of a burn on them. it is a golden brown on all the outsides. the other problem is the way the snow layed on them all winter. the round bushes are flattened out, so the branches are all going out to the sides. what can i do for them?
the last problem is trimming. some have grown much taller than the others. for instance at my front door, the left side is in shade and the arbor vitae is about 3 feet shorter than the one to the right of the door, in full sun. can i take off the 3 feet?
i know nothing about trimming evergreens. my dh did the others at our old house. they were probably boxwoods. would we do them the same way here?
help!!!!! i looked for some help on the web and couldn't find much of anything.
is this the right time of year, here in zone 5, early spring to be doing this?
thanks debi z
arbor vitae help!
debi-z, Actually I think you can prune-trim arbor vitea almost any time of year. I had a row of them at my other place, and I know if you don't keep at them they will grow too large. My DH would not cut them ( well he did top them once in the 25 or so years they were there. I kept what I could reach sort of in control. Hedgeshears of something of that nature works fairly well in clipping them. Donna
thanks rutholive.
