Party Update!!

Jacksonville, TX(Zone 8b)

Things are right on track for the August Party.

So far, I have 16 or so members on the "for sure coming" list. Remember- if you have not emailed me- you are not on this list!!! Get those emails to me!

Just to jump start your excitement a little, here are some plans that we've made so far:

Talks:
Tim will be doing a talk on bonsai
Woodspirit will be doing a talk on historic gardening
Melody will be doing a talk on seed saving
and there will be one or more talks in the "Hands On Home area" with cooking, bookmaking, ect.

Friday is still the "meet the guests" time starting at 7:00p.m. There will be refreshments served.

Saturday morning there will be coffee and donunts.

The excitement begins on Saturday with the plant and seed trading. Others have asked if they could bring crafts and other things (GS finds, ect) to trade, and that is welcome.

Plant trading is expected to go on throught the day with people swapping things. The talks will be scattered throughout the day as well as several games that we have in the plans. Lunch will be served.

Dinner is the pot luck. Many people have expressed concern over bringing a pot luck, in fear of it spoiling. The main reason for the pot luck is to keep the cost of the party down, and a little less work for me :) However, if you do not wish to bring a dish, feel free to add $5 per person to your party donation (set at $15 per person), or contact me for other arrangements.

Saturday night there will be a big bonfire with roasting marshmellows.

We will be serving snacks and drinks throughout the day. However, the party is a BYOB affair, should you choose to drink. If you do choose to drink, be prepared to have a DD, or to camp at the farm :)

So far, I have no campers, so for those of you who are staying in a hotel, don't feel like you are missing out :)

Also, if you could please try to bring lawn chairs or blankets to sit on, that would really help us out!

Its not to late to sign up! We are very excited about the party, and hope that many of you can come!!

Sounds good to me...by the way, when I come (fingers still crossed) I'll be camping (unless the weather is over 100*) so be sure to save me a nice big shade tree!!! Perhaps others who plan to camp could speak up (so I won't be too afraid of the dark!)

Horseshoe: You've got your pick of 16 acres of land on which to choose your camping spot, so come on down! We've got thick woods, open meadows, and plenty of shade trees to bunker down under.

And snakes. ;-)

Yeah, if you see any snakes, you'll get to have a fun adventure that involves helping me hunt them down. Hint: It involves a 12 guage shotgun.

Yeehaww! I'll bring my snake stick! Course now, (and hope I've not related this episode b4) but I remember the time...****I wrestled w/a copperhead for about 20 minutes then finally succumbed it. Totally exhausted I went to the house to get DW to show her what a copperhead looked like. We stood there a bit and admired it, then went in to eat supper. Next day, I came home from work (yep, was doing public work back then...worked with handicapped, low IQ's, mentally retarded, etc...) and it had been a crazy 'full-moon' kinda day. Remembering that I'd left the dead snake in the grass overnite I decided to take my "soda" down there and get rid of it b4 it started stinking too much. There I stood, in a pair of shorts, bare feet, finally unwinding from my hectic day, sipping my soda. Ahhhh.... Unbeknownst to me my pet rooter, Festus, who liked to peck my pearly white toes (probably thinking they were grub worms) came up behind me. You guessed it. There I stood, soda in hand, relaxing, staring at a dead copperhead...and silent Festus PECKED MY TOE!!! I lost it! I SCREAMED and HOLLERED and went straight up in the air probably 20 feet! AND(!), apparently by doing so I had in turn scared Festus...On the way back down I caught my first site of Festus, my mind was still thinking SNAKE(!) but yet here was a SCREAMING and HOLLERING ROOSTER(!) going up 20 ft in the air changing places with me! It just didn't register in my feeble mind! When I hit the ground I SCREAMED AND HOLLERED and went BACK UP(!), again seeing and hearing Festus who was on his way down! Mercy! We both took a few more turns going BACK UP then it must've dawned on one of us what was going on! Festus walked away looking at me over his shoulder like I did something wrong. I walked away in the other direction and what'd I do?....stepped right on that dead snake (remember the snake?) with my bare foot, SCREAMED AND HOLLERED AGAIN(!), shot back up in the air------Festus was 20 feet away but HE SCREAMED AND HOLLERED and went back up in the air! We were both extremely nervous and humiliated. I noticed he went to the chicken coop and I thought that was a good idea so I went back to the house...neither one of us came out of our respective abodes for a good half hour or so. (First thing I did was get rid of the snake!)

Hysterical!

Speaking of diets.....

If there is anyone with an extra special diet, you should email me and let me know. This doesn't include I'm trying to lose a couple of pounds kind of diet :)

I'm talking pure veggetarians, diabetics, ect. Otherwise, we'll all be eating nice-healthy- downhome-Southern (read fatty) foods :)
