Sue, i do not know anything about Musa Basjoo. when i talk about banana plant, i was referring to the edible kinds. am not familiar with ornamental bananas at all! sorry.

Carena, u should grow or own galangal. try to find urself a root in any oriental market and grow some urself. i was born and raise to use fresh ones, unless it is unavailable. u're welcome to come and eat at my place any time. when i was living in Los Angeles, friends and family come and made my house into a restaurant during weekends. plant the roots in damp soil. do not over water. it will shoot up in no time, specially the warm weather is upon us. i always bury fresh ginger roots in damp soil to keep them fresh and young all the time. the only problem is i use a lot of ginger in my cooking. i don't seems to keep enough ginger around. did u know ginger will take off the funky smell on some food? specially fish and chicken.

geeez, u guys sure are picking on my brain today... hehehehehe. love it though cause i can sure share some info, learned from personal experiences.

Ha Ha, we pick your brain because there's good things in there! I'll plant some galangal and some malanga (hmm I should make up a song...)right away for sure! the ginger idea is great too, even though I usually use it up before it has a chance to even think about getting old. :0)~

John, I grow just about everything in my garden. Do not do corn though since my BIL plants an acre of it in one of his corn fields and we have access to as much as we want. He never does anything with it anyway and usually a lot of it goes to waste. This year I'm growing parsnips. I haven't grown them for many years. My greenhouse has lots of tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, parsley, etc. just waiting for good weather to go in the ground. My cabbage, kohlrabi, radishes, turnips, beets, peas, potatoes, onions, and carrots are in the ground now and everything is up but the carrots. Will plant cantaloupe, cucumbers, squash (a couple of kinds), sweet potatoes, and beans when the weather warms. Keeps me busy and out of trouble. Besides, it all tastes so good fresh. I can tomatoes, tomato juice, and make salsa, but the rest we just eat and give away.

am pretty sure once u've tried one, u will always be craving for one. that is how good they are.

the outer skin is black. the whole potato is elongated, instead of round. the meat is deep shade of purple. the meat inside has the texture of Idaho potatoes. nice and flaky.
