Welp, we have finished our move, so it's time to break the news - we're now back in Texas. We lived in Texas in 97-99 and we loved it and regretted moving away. Well, we're back and happy as little clams.
Our house in TN is still for sale - we may rent it out if we don't find a buyer soon.
The DG server is still in Knoxville and will continue to be for the foreseeable future. The folks that are taking care of it have done a good job for over 2 years and I don't see a good reason to discontinue with them.
Now, it's time to re-learn how to garden (especially with these herds of deer that come through and eat everything but the prickly pears!)
It's a 4 acre ranch, pictures of the place are here: http://whitinger.net/~dave/kerrville/
I took those pictures back when we first looked at the house, so the stuff you see belongs to the previous owners. I'll have more pictures later.
Dave
We've moved!
And best of all, y'all now have a POND!!! (It's a baby pond, but still - it is a bona-fide water garden.)
Now, who wants to guess how long it takes for Dave and Trish to dig a bigger one???

Well Dave, I wish you the very best with your new house.
You'll have all the space to put your gardening skills to practice.
Now you'll only need the time!!!
Happiness in your new home!
wow, what a change. What made you especially miss Texas? Will the climate be considerably different? I know Tennessee can be humid compared to like Oregon. I can't imagine making such a big move? We have been here for 30 years and so I am stuck; happily so though. My parents made a big move which brought me here but to move now seems gigantic. I think when you live on the land as we do here on our little farm that makes it doubly difficult. I am interested in what makes a person make these changes.
wow! that was fast. I wish you all the best, if you need plants, put out the call. I have some water plants when it's a bit warmer too.
If you get back this way anytime for a visit, please let me know.
Trish, I sure don't envy you all the unpacking that comes with this, but if anyone can do it, it's you.
love to you both.
Dave, It's absolutely beautiful! The best of luck to you and Trish with your new home.
Welcome back Dave! There's no place like Texas!!

Best wishes to you both in your new home! John
Congrats!!
Oh, wow - good for you guys! We'll miss having you so (relatively) close in Tennessee, but with the web we're never far apart. That's one nice piece of land - and a nice house. We're so excited for you guys!
P.S. Ohhhhh, that kitchen! And the tub!

I was surprised; I didn't know a move was underway. I like it so much here in the mtns. just over the state line from Tennessee that I can't imagine moving. Do you have family in Tennessee? What part of Texas is Kerrville?
I love the house; it has nice architectual features. The land look prettier than what I saw when I visited my sister in Dallas.....
I missed it too woodspirit1. And I thought I might get to meet you and Trish one day. Occassionally I get through that part of Tenn. Well, good luck to you, I sure don't want to start over either. But some people are made for that, they can handle it.
Congratulations on finding a place that you love and are happy with, even though I think your place in TN was absolutely gorgeous! God's blessings to you all in your new home! We share your happiness.
What a wonderfu place!! I would love it there. And thanks for showing us the pictures. When I was raising my kids I always thought it a great idea for the child to go to work me to "see where Mommy is duirng the day"......Well, we now know where our Mommy Trish, and Papa Dave is during the day!!! It makes me feel more secure.....LOL Jo
Very cool place! I'm jealous! Cain't stand it!!!
What a great windmill too! (does it pump water up? I saw what looks like a water barrel next to it.)
I just looked at a few pics, not all (didn't see the pond) but the house looks great! So nice! (And did they throw in the golf cart by the garage??) :>)
I think ya'll are gonna be extremely happy there. What a spread, eh?
Bigtime congratulations. I bet ya'll are in HappyLand!
Welcome back to Texas.
Dave, I saw your post yesterday with Kerrville, TX under your name and wondered what I had missed. Now I know. I pray God's blessings for all of you in your new home. It is a beautiful place~fit for beautiful people!
Wow! That was indeed fast. Did you get here before the bad weather set in? Kerrville is such a great area, and I envy you being able to go there. I do have a friend or two there, even a puter guru who set up my first system. Maybe I can actually meet you! How you managed to keep doing all of this site while you were moving is to remain forever a mystery to us who are limited to logging on and clicking with the mouse. So, Dave, you will be participating in the big music gatherings there? Puter friend has a group, some releases and a web site, and works for the college, you are bound to cross paths. A warm welcome back, DG founders.
Hi everyone, and thanks for the well wishes ! :)
Don't feel bad...no one knew on DG that we were moving (well, vols did:). We just love to surprise people :)
We've moved several times in our 6 1/2 years of marriage (9 times to be exact). Yes, we left family in TN...for those of you who don't know, GrannyLois is Dave's mom- and we don't know a sole in Texas, but the Lord has led us here, and already blessed us with the perfect house, and much more than we deserve, or ever thought that we would find.
I've got my hands full with trying to find a place for all of our stuff, but I love this part of moving. Everything finds a new "home", and I'm in my element with getting to redecorate everything all over again. We moved in on Friday, and I have all but a very few (4 maybe) boxes unpacked. Of course, not everything is in its final place, but at least I'm not living out of a box.
I have a blank slate with the house- all of the walls are white, so I can start from scratch (except for a few small wallpaper places that will change eventually). There is no landscaping to speak of (basic landscaper plantings), so we have a blank slate there, too. tiG, I may have to take you up on your offer of plants....with it being winter, almost everything that we had was dormant, so we're starting over.
Dave is absolutely right with learning how to garden all over again. We don't have a lot of experience dealing with the heat (we didn't garden much except for some very failed attempts years ago in Dallas), and we're learing all about deer resistant plants, as everything else will get eaten by them. As always, though, we look forward to our new challenges, and the chance to grow things we've never grown before!
Thanks again to all of you for our "virtual housegreeting party"! Ya'll are great! :)
Wow, you two are sneaky!
Hmm, Trish, I hear that roses LOVE Texas! You'll have to let me know what you're looking for when you get sorted out.
I am so happy that you finally got to get back to TX. Your new home is beautiful and Trish you will have a ball decorating. That sewing machine is going to get a work out I bet.As for starting over gardening that could be fun and a challenge. I am sure you will have plenty of help with plants and seeds as soon as you figure out what ya want and need. All ya got to do it let us know. (You do belong to the best garden site around after all) lol
Dave and Trish congratulations. Your house is beautiful.
Y'all remember, we natives have things growing in our gardens that were meant to be in TEXAS, and the deer won't touch them!! Let us know. You like Lantana?
"eyes"
In the Kerrville area, there are plenty of sources for wildflowers and seeds. In fact, one of the biggest providers is near there, Wildseed Farms in Fredericksburg. The climate is somewhat different from the Central Texas climate, which is why we call it the Hill Country. It gets colder there in winter, but not usually so hot in summer. Rainfall is usually less abundant. Snow is more frequent. In general, it's still more natural, with enough shopping to keep you supplied and larger cities close enough to fill in.
I would be honored to share some of my bearded iris, as well as ligustrum, Rose of Sharon, various sages and others I will think about later. Just say the word, and a package will be winging its way to the new Dave and Trish manor. As for deer resistant, my experience here has been that they eat almost everything, with the exception of most sages and lantana. Just plant three times as much as you think you need, fence the precious stuff and hope for the best.
Good luck in your new home and I know that you'll have a garden up and started in no time.
It is a lovely place - great house. We will miss knowing you are "close by", but of course want you two to be happy. I don't envy you "starting over", but you are young enough to enjoy it. Congrats on your new life venture.
Boy I was starting to feel left out when I read that you guy's moved but then Trish posted that no one at DG knew , so I guess you were not trying to hide from me!!!!!
Congrat's to you guy's and GOOD LUCK, your new home is BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!!!
sue
Good Luck--and Bless your new home--it is the greatest adventure starting anew. I did it 33 years ago and loved my little piece of the world (Raubsville, Pa.)so much I am still here (but it does not look the same)--the only thing constant here is change. So take your time and enjoy.
Wow! 'Looks like a very nice place, Dave & Trish.
Best of luck to you in your new home. :-)
