I am new at this and am just getting started. Would like to find some different species of pussy willows that will grow in my zone-3b. Can anyone help me? I thought to ship a tube to send them in if I can find some.....
Anyone have hardy pussy willows for cuttings?
I really don't know if mine are hardy in zone 3 but I can certainly send you some cuttings in the spring. I doubt cuttings taken now would do anything as the sap is still way down. I got this one because I bought a cutting at a garden show one year. This one does get rather tall and bushy but you can trim it back if you want to. We finally did last year. Just keep me reminded of this offer. I tend to be very forgetful.
Thank you, that would be great. About when do you think would be a good time and I will make a note to remind you...would love to try it, and bushy is OK-more privacy!
About a month or so from now is about when the sap should start coming up.
Thanks-I will remind you. Does anybody know if you can root the ones that you get in a flower arrangement? I got a big cutting from one (I work in a hospital) and it looks green-do you suppose it would work???

I sure would try it. Just leave it in water until you see roots forming. You may want to change the water every few days, however willow water(water that has had willow twigs soaked it it)is noted for being good rooting water for other plants. If you have rooting hormone on hand, try dipping the end of the stem in it and sticking it in vermiculite, etc. I've done both methods successfully. If it is a really long twig, cut it into a couple or three pieces to increase your changes of success. Best wishes and GOD bless you.
Thank you leaflady, I have it in water already but I never thought to cut it into 2 or 3 stems. It IS long enough to do that so maybe I will....
