Hi to everyone new on the brug forum. I run into posts once in a while that mention that someone is new to the brug forum, but not all people read each and every post. I thought I would start a new thread that would give the new people here a chance to introduce themselves on one thread and then we can all say WELCOME to you. Hope to see lots of people saying "HI" here.
Let's Welcome ALL NEW Members....
Great idea Brugie! Let me way welcome you all in advance! Jump right in! You will love it here. Everyone is so friendly!
I am not new, but joining Brugie, also, in welcoming all new members.
Some very nice people are at this forum (o:
I also join Brugie in saying: Welcome to all new members!
Sorry, I had been very busy lately and did not spend much time here as usual.
Hello from frozen Wisconsin to all the new bruggie members. You'll learn lots here and make loads of new friends. I know I did, they made me feel welcome. And........they are most generous with sharing their cuttings.
Not new either but "Welcome" to all. A place where we all share the common goal of growing & sharing beautiful brugs. A place where both become a part of your family.
I've been at DG for a year and a half and sometimes sneak into this forum too. LOL Last year was my first year with brugs thanks to one of the above and it was the only one that bloomed. Now I have several dozen and can't wait to see what beauty they all behold! Welcome to all the new people and many thanks to the 'old timers'.

Welcome all new members. It is always good to see new people join the brug forum. It is fun when you can share a common interest with others. So, jump in with both feet and ask all the questions that you want.
I have a question about starting seeds indoors. I've been reading the threads on propogating seeds. I sowed 6 double white lady seeds a month ago in starting mix on a heating pad and under grow lights and not one has come up. I have a few I thought I'd start in paper towels. Have them on the ballister of one of my grow lights (for heat - but not grow-lights). These I only put in the paper towels about a week ago. When I read through these threads and see someone has had 100% germination - I am more than a little curious as to what method is being used. Can you share your wisdom?
Welcome new member!!!!
daturalady, those are datura, right? I think that even fresh they take a bit longer than brug seeds. don't give up, not certain about dats, but brugs can take up to a year to germinate.
Daturalady,I'm ready to try some in my cool basement under lights to see if that makes a difference,I have a flat that is not cooperating also.
Maybe it's the cool they need?not sure, but I will try.I have never seen mine start so slow, and this is the first time I am starting them upstairs at 70+.
we'll see.
Don't give up!

Ps Am I new?guess so.thanks for the welcome S

Welcome all new members.
Thanks everyone. I checked the seed packet and they are from Thompson and Morgan - Brugmansia x candida Double White Lady. I guess I will just wait (and wait) and see what happens.
I guess I'm still pretty new, so thanks everyone.
I discovered Brugs last year and fell in love with the flowers and the incredible scent. I have lots of cuttings growing in the house and hope to have a great show in the garden this year.
I appreciate the advise that I have got from everybody here so far.
Can't wait for spring.
Kerstin
daturalady, I grew several different types(some from T&M)two years ago and had about 90% germination. I soaked them overnight, planted them in a mix that had good drainage, and put them under grow lights. I did not use a heat mat.I misted them with a spray bottle instead of watering them so they would not stay too wet. This is just the way that worked well for me.
Welcome everyone. The brug forum is a great place to learn and make new friends.
I was brand new last month, then a family emergency took me offline until now, so I kinda popped onto the scene then popped right back off. I am in transition with living arrangements, may have to give away hundreds of seeds. Would like to trust some traders for cuttings when I get settled in a month or so, for seeds I can send to you now. I have a partial list on Gardenweb under kizzylaveeda. My much harder to find seeds are not listed, mostly those from overseas, ie. Netherlands, Norway, Australia. I am staying with friends, you need to post me directly to my email address. Thanks everybody.

Hi new members! Welcome to the Brug Forum and their kin, Daturas. A great place to learn a lot and make new friends. :~) Happy Gardening!!!
Thanks Snowhermit - I will try that too.
Hi everyone. I'm new to the brug forum. I'm new to Dave's Garden. I just received a supply of brug seeds from Farmgirl and am looking forward to germinating them. The University has allowed me to use the (unused for several years) greenhouse on the roof of the biology building. I'm trying to get it repaired (thermostat control etc.) so I can move some plants into it in a month or so. Since I'm a newbi I will crying for help from time to time and I thank you in advance for your responses.
Padre, what all did you have to go through to use this greenhouse? My DH works at the University here, and their lovely greenhouse is sitting idle too. Are they going to pay to heat it for you?
I contacted the Chair of the Biology Department. He said it hadn't been used for several years. It is heated all winter, even empty, to keep the pipes from freezing. (Set low) I sent a memo to the director of facilities, with a cc. to the Chairman, requesting a complete maintenance check on the heaters, thermostat, lamps & wiring. No response yet. It needs a good cleaning - but I can do the physical labor. I don't know what I need to use to sterilize the workbenches etc. But I'll address those issues in the Greenhouse forum when I am ready to move in.
Thats what I call lucky! Welcome at daves and our forum and Congratulations for being able to use this GH.
Padre, I hope I get as lucky as you. Won't do it this season, I would have too many to move, but will pursue this during the summer so I might have something much nicer next year. keeping my fingers crossed. and congrats, way to go after a dream!
Now that is a dream come true!! I can't help you with any Brugs as of yet, but if you have wants for other things let me know. :)
Great deal you have going there. Hope you grow many wonderful plants and have a great time doing it. Welcome to Daves. Hope to see you around here a lot.
Thanks for the welcome. I know everyone is wanting spring to come SOON but I am not ready to greet it yet. I have so much to do and neither know what it is I have to do or how to do it. I do know I will never learn to swim by reading books on swimming - I've got to jump in! [Hopefully there is a lifeguard near by :-)] Sooo, besides reading and asking questions I'm getting dirt under my fingernails and loving every minute of it !! Was it Lucy [Peanuts character] who said, 'God put me on this earth with a job to do and I'm so far behind I don't think I'll ever die.' I'm with you Lucy!
I'm coming in late here (puter probs) - welcome everyone. Coming to daves was one of the best things I've ever done.
And Padre? You lucky, lucky duck you!!
Padre, I love Lucy´s words...
Liz, How did you know - my family name is Drake !!!!!
