My list would be easier with the dislikes too. Mum's yuck! Everything else is good.
What other plants do you have a passion for?
I left out plumeria, citrus, ficus........I like almost everything!
I don't have any pictures, if my husband will leave the digital camera home more this summer, I'll take lots. He usually keeps it with him to take pictures of jobs, then gets too busy to take them, anyway.
Miss, have you rooted cuttings of your oleander before? I took a couple of cuttings of turner's flirt last fall, but they didn't root. It's probably one of those things that root better when it's warm. Maybe we can trade next summer.
Welcome, Kizzy and Miss!
Ronna, yes i have rooted my oleander cuttings,i'm waiting for some double white cuttings from a trade this week. if you would like to trade cuttings that would be great! :o)
i think the trick with rooting them is humidity. Put them in a clear bag and tie it up . clear plastic cups is also a good idea for rooting, put holes in bottom to drain. this way you see when the roots are starting.
Arlene, thank you for the welcome!!!!
Kinna have to say roses are one of my favorite/cursed plants. I havent got any adult brugs yet, so I guess they will come with their own set of problems:S but for right now Im still in brug fantasy land and I have my fingers in my ears so dont burst my bubble. :)
gee I wonder if there are special oleanders that I have not seen. Here they are highway bushes so not that special. The doubles are pretty but the dead blooms hang on to long. I have some as standards on the perimeter of my backyard to give me floriferous privacy. But I do not love them! I am getting really into crepe myrtles. The colors are so intense and long lasting.
Kell, around me they are not seen to much, and bloom most of the time .I'm always asked what is that. and they do well coming in for the winter.several friends have them now from pieces of mine.I would most likly feel how you do if they were all around me....LOL and you are right about the doubles don't self clean...:o(
I should also add hibiscus to my list, just ordered some really beautiful ones .Would post pictures but don't know how.I'm new at this.
Miss, if you have your pics saved in your computer somewhere, just click on the 'browse' button below your post, find the file your pic is in, then find the pic in that file that you want to post, and click on it and this forum will do the rest for you.
If you then click on "preview" you will see the pic as a small one in your post and if it is what you want to shop, then "send" it..
I am not certain if there is a restriction on the size of picture you are supposed to use, maybe someone can answer that for us.
Beautiful Hibiscus Miss - yes, it is recommended that we resize our pictures to 640 x 480 pixels. Then whe you blow it up, it is a nicer veiwing size. This one could have been a little larger, but still fine!!
Azalea,
that pixels thing flew right by me...lol
have only had a computer 2 months now. Went into the copyright area on this site and took the writing off the pictures.I like to use some of the pictures for wallpaper on my computer. I have one on here now from Florida gardener.(a plumeria that is just beautiful)

Miss...that sure is a sweet one! I just love it. You really need a GH to grow those though even in my zone where lots of common hibiscus do well here all year round. In the summer they do great outside but in the winter they die soon. I have a great red one that I am overwintering on my kitchen sink and I have gotten some flowers. I just do not have room for many more though. I also have a big pot of Adenium obesum on my kitchen windowsill............and am quite thrilled with it. If it blooms well for me this coming season, I am going to get more of them. It also has lots of interest when not in flower compared with the hibiscus leaves.
but if I could I would grow every one!
It's beginning to look like there isn't ANYTHING that I don't like! No wonder my husband said 'we've been invaded again' when I brought everything inside for the winter. Of course, he also thinks that the house looks naked once everything goes outside for the summer. I have a few hibiscus, a double peach, Snow Queen with variegated leaves & red flowers, and I just got a baby hibiscus schizapetalus. I got an adenium obesum for my birthday, I can't wait to see it bloom!
Kell,that is beautiful!!!!!!!
Ronna, i have the same thing at my house, it's taken over with plants for the winter.DH says i need a green house.
Kell, yours is beautiful! I won't know what color my adenium is until it blooms. It lost a few leaves, but still has a half dozen or so. I just got it a couple of months ago.
Hello Ra49
The picture is beautiful!
What is it?
sandy (summerwind)
It is a Lotus in both of my pictures.
RA, those lotus have just captivated my interest! Of course just one would fill up my entire yard. The leaves are so huge, the flowers look so small relatively. How many blooms can you expect from a huge plant like that at one time? How many month do they bloom for?
Don't you just love dave's........ I get to enjoy so much that on my own I might never come across!
kell- I'm not RA, but the lotus bloom in the first photo on the thread is a dwarf variety( can't think of the name).
Blooms from June till August. Even when not in bloom the foliage is lovely to look at. I grow my lotus in 'muck buckets', rubber tubs with handles. I've even grown a few in the ground.
There are several lotus that are considered 'bowl type' very small flower and foliage, they can survive in TINY little pots. The variety is endless. You've got to try some.
Kristi
Gee thanks Kristi............ I will now have to start looking for small ones though those huge leaves are so alluring. Thanks Kristi!
ok....I just looked again at the enlarged picture that started this thread. I guess I need to find that one. it sure is pretty! is it a relative of the waterlilly?
How big is that one Kristi?
Hi Kell- Just found my tag, it's lotus CHAWAN BASU. Considered a dwarf forum.
Here is some information on lotus http://www.botany.com/nelumbo.html
"They need enough summer warmth (two or three months of 75º - 85º F. temps.) to cause them to bloom." Gee I wonder if the temperature here is why I have never seen them in nurseries here. It may not get warm enough for blooms.......... we stay at usually 70 degrees all summer. Well another possible obsession nipped in the bud so to speak........my DH will be thrilled.
kell- you'd be surprised how fast water in those little tubs heat up to on a sunny day. I still think you'd be able to grow them and get them to bloom. Heck, they grow in zone 4! These are REALLY hardy plants. I think you should give it a try.
I've heard they don't do well in california, something about the temps......or lack of humitiy....or something...its all Celsius to me...LOL
LOL CC............. no one has talked Celsius to me for days
gee I just found one at the Aquatic Plant Depot I was thinking of ordering........... but you are probably right......... I had tub arrangements dancing in my head
Kell, I sent you an e mail about the Lotus.
