What other plants do you have a passion for?

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Other then brugmansias? I adore woodland plants, hardy succulents, hardy figs (love the foliage and the stories behind some of these plants) and water lotus- who wouldn't love a bloom like this? All it takes is a tub of water and some sun.

South American herbs, fruit trees/bushes and I've started a Ginkgo collection of different cultivars. Brugs are my favourite though. I like how they are always changing.

Seymour, TN(Zone 6b)

Sedum...I have over 60 kinds. Love it.

I'd have to say musa and clerodendrums

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Great photos Ludger & Smokymist! Tig- how many different types of Clerodendrums do you find hardy to your zone? Also, have you seen this clerodendurm?

datdog, haven't seen that one!! I don't think but 2 are hardy here, and of course, I'm having a brain freeze as to which ones, I'll have to look it up, I think the regular bungei and the one they call harlequin glory bower.
How could I forget alocasia and colocasias???????

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Well tiG don't feel bad. I forgot the clero's thunbergia's and passiflora. Many others are as well liked, but these are the ones that stick out in my mind right now. Almost forgot hibiscus and cannas. Oh gosh, I better quit. This is making me so hungry for spring and warm weather, getting my hands dirty again, and sitting on the deck, not to mention working in my greenhouse.

(Zone 7b)

I collect cannas too. I started with them before I knew what a brug was.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

I like em all!!!!!!LOL If it grows I have probably had it at one time. :-)

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

You water lily is absolutely exquisite! Which one is it?

Where to begin? Clematis, Rhodos, Calla Lillies, Caladiums, Roses with Clematis intertwined, Cannas, Brugs - since I've been introduced to this gorgeous tropical tree. My list could go on and on and on....

Benton, KY(Zone 7a)

I'm a tomato addict.Have over 100 varieties and still adding to the collection.I grow out about 30 different types each year.

Melody,Do you have an extra room?I'll bring the bacon,I'll pick you up on my way to La. tonite. Then on the way back we'll do BLTs.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I am with Melody and Root. I love tomatoes with best foods mayonnaise!

Datdog......your pic is fantastic.......who could not love that plant? and it is pink also! So you have that in a water barrel?

Geez Brugie, that EE is amazing.......was it totally rootbound? I have never grown one of those...... I love everything that has flowers and even some that do not!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

That is very pretty. I like anything I can get to grow in my wet yard. I am really trying hard to find fruiting tree for food for the birds. I have finally found 2 so far. Mulberry and Huckleberry and I have lots of wild black berries. If they survive the freeze they should do very well.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

I like salvias, butterfly bushes, most blooming vines, hibiscus(hardy & trop), nannas, caladiums, hardy fuchia, beebalm, camelias, abutilons, most any flowering plant that attracts hummingbirds and does not take a lot of care.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Brugie, that ear looks great! Eclipse was right behind me though, you would have found them through him.
Datdog, i grow a couple of water lilies in tubs, the gold fish live all winter here in the tubs. that variegated bungeii is too pretty. i wonder if it is as invasive.

Burlington, ON(Zone 6a)

I seem to go through 'stages' of plants I like.
I do enjoy my Lotus and have had them for about 14 years. (the longest plant in my garden most likely)
This one is called Maggie Bell Slocum.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Wow! guess i'd better check out lotus plants.

Seymour, TN(Zone 6b)

OH my gosh what a gorgeous plant Ra...I'd love to hear more about this if you'd email me.

Burlington, ON(Zone 6a)

Really, this one is my favourite of the two.
It is called Mrs. Perry D. Slocum.

I have belonged to DG for 2 days now. Trying to tie up loose ends with GW traders so I can spend ALL my time here!
I love "sissy" flowers like tiny woodlanders, anything blue or bell-shaped, blooms that look transparent or like paper mache, geraniums, peonies, hibiscus, lychnis, columbine. Gosh, it's so hard to decide! I am not daisy crazy or much into the ordinary (guess that's why I LOVE DG so far). Yall seem to be more "sophisticated" than other sites I have visited. Got my first newsletter last night - what great photos!

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

Jeez, you mean there are other plants and flowers BESIDES brugs????? :>) Actually, I LOVE anything big, the EE's and stuff like that. I'm thinking of trying to grow a gunnera in a pot, we'll see what happens. Posted some questions on them on the Tropical site. Might have to check out these lotus plants too. RA, if you could e-mail me some info on them, like where they can be purchased, I'd appreciate it. thanks.

I've loved bougainvillea for a long time. How am I going to explain to them that I have 17 bougainvilleas after probably 10 years, and 23 brugs after 2 years? - I know, I'll tell them that they would ROOT easier, that people would trade them like they do brugs!

Pink lantana, I can't resist them! They bloom all summer long, the hummingbirds barely back off enough for me to water them. Some of the hummers don't back off, I've had them go on feeding close enough to touch.

Oleander is a new favorite. I have 8 of them, only 1 is fragrant. I want more fragrant ones! One of the wonderful things about the fragrant one is that it is most fragrant when it's hot, in the middle of the day. So many fragrant plants release their scent in the mornings and evenings and just sit there looking pretty when it is hot outside!

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Ronna-since you are in zone 6B, which oleander do you grow? Are they in containers or in the ground? Do you know the name of your Pink Lantana? Pink is one of my favorite colors!

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Shirley,

They are in containers. The oleanders I have are:
Hardy Pink - supposed to be hardy here, but I haven't tried
Hardy Red - just got it in trade, only a few inches tall
Turner's Flirt - dwarf, FRAGRANT, bloomed for 7 months
Turner's Carnival - dwarf, salmon pink flowers
Turner's Tickled Pink - dwarf, pink flowers
Sister Agnes - standard size, white flowers
Petite Salmon - dwarf
Unnamed double - double yellow flowers with pink edge, like a peace rose

Most of the lantanas aren't named, I have 15 plants, 11 of them are pink. The named ones are:
Patriot Hot Country - magenta
Irene - magenta
Confetti - peachy pink, finishing like faded red cotton
Athens Rose - medium rose pink
Patriot Petticoat - pale baby pink
Pink Caprice - medium baby pink
Dallas Red - red
Samantha - varigated leaves, yellow flowers

I have seeds from the hardy pink and sister agnes oleanders, and am waiting for seeds from the turner's flirt. The bees pollinated them, so I don't know for sure who the father is, but I paid attention to which ones were blooming when I saw the pods forming, to narrow down the possibilities. I think that I will probably plant out some of the seeds and see how hardy they are. My house seems to shrink every fall!

Livermore, CA(Zone 9a)

There aren't too many plants that I don't just love. But I am particulaly fond of my Passiflora, Thumbergia's,
Healds trumpet vine, Datura's, Clitoria's and just about anything tropical. I also have over 100 different hoya's.
I absolutely love morning glory's, roses, camellia's and I could go on and on.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

I had certain plants that I was gunna say....

But then I read everyones posts, saying, yup, those are my favorites, yep, those too....so I forgot about that one...opps theres two more

Id say ...
Passiflora
Hibiscus
citrus
taro

there are lots of plants I'd like to be my favorites ....but I kill them......sniff,snivel....sigh

Ellicott City, MD(Zone 7a)

Ronna,

You've got quite an impressive list of Oleanders & Lantanas! With your Bougainvillea, Brug collection, and an assortment of other tropicals too, I can see why you say that your house is being "over run" with plants!

The plants in my house are taking over the sun room, family room, bathrooms, basement, and I wouldn't have it any other way :~)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Oh my goodness RA.......those lotus are incredible. How do you over winter them?

Welcome Kizzy, it is great that you are here! I look forward to your postings.

Ronna, Lenjo on another forum talked about a gorgeous pink lantana in my area. I have not seen one around here. DO you have any pictures of yours? I sure would love to see the different ones as I now must find myself one.

Do you know what this one is called? It was huge last year and flowered so well. I was thrilled with it.

So many plants and so little time!

Thumbnail by Kell
Burlington, ON(Zone 6a)

Kell, Lotus are an easy plant to have in the garden, no fussing or bringing in for the winter LOL. They are hardy here in my zone so stay put in their home. They are easy keepers but are heavy feeders during the growing season if you want lots of blooms. They are a bit of an investment in the beginning but from there on in are easy to keep.

lagrange, GA(Zone 7a)

Kell, I think that lantana is the dallas red. Here's mine. The butterflies and hummers love it.

Edited to say that my favorite is hibiscus, passiflora, and all the plants in tiG'S yard the last time I visited.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well thanks Jim!! if I can only keep them alive this winter. We're down to 17 this morning, wondering if any of the brugs I left in the ground will make it over. DH said we did get this cold last year, and I had them come back. I have cuttings of everything, but wonder what the roots will do. You should have seen it by summers end, it was quite beautiful here. (of course now it looks horrid)

Medford, NJ(Zone 6b)

Gosh, I love all the photos. The Lantanas look lovely but they make me itch, I can't grow them.
The lotsu are VERY low maint. plants, some of my favorite. RAa49, do you grow yours in a pond or tubs? I had a nice size collection before my move. They had to be left behind- no room in the moving truck. I did farm them out to other gardeners- hopefully I'll get some tubers back.
This spring I have 7 different types coming in from a order. I can hardly wait! Got all my tubs ready to go.
Kristi

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

I used to be a Daylily nut, then I discovered Brugs and they diverted some of my interest. Then Daylily rust came along and took all the fun away. I don't have time to spray fungicide all the time so I'm not buying any more Daylilies.
Other than Brugs, I grow plants for Hummers and Butterflies. So I have lots of Butterfly bushes, Lantana, Salvias, Firespikes etc. Anything with lots of nectar is my favorite plant.

Plumieville, PA(Zone 6b)

i would have to say oleander and plumeria.are 2 of my favorites.

Ronna,i have a double pink, the flowers smell like baby powder.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Hate decisions - it would probably be easier to list what I DON'T like!! But other than Brugs, a few of my favorites are Hostas, Ears, Camellias, Roses, Sedums and Caladiums.
