rooting coleus

Milton, MA(Zone 5a)

I am trying to root coleus. I have been using vermiculite with only fair success. Any great ideas?

Hi,
I root all my coleus over the winter some in water and leave some in soil. The water seems to be the best way. Coleus are supposed to cause other plants to root easier if you put other cuttings in the same water. It works for me. Cheryl

I use both vermiculie and perlite and find them very easy to root.
I do use a rooting hormone.

They will root very easily in water, just be sure to change the water regularly or they might rot.
