Tampa, FL(Zone 9b)

Thanks eyes...I had to order also! great prices!

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

Eyes, thanks for adding your comment - I know all these businesses appreciate the positive comments, and "word of mouth" really helps the smaller ones (without the huge marketing/advertising budget and glossy catalogs) stay in business!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Thanks Eyes . . they really do have good prices and I just had to order some also.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Oh gosh, I'm afraid I can't control myself any longer. Thanks for the URL. I'm on my way to give them more business.

Oh Eyes, I'm in so much trouble. I just ordered 36 bulbs as they call them. At least Jim won't know about them until April. :-) He thinks I'm nuts with flowers anyway.

Murfreesboro, TN(Zone 7a)

(Whispering in everyone's ear) Be sure you rate and comment on them in the Watchdog - and let them know where you heard about them. Since they didn't have any ratings before Eyes shared her discovery, I'm sure they'd like to know where all these customers and inquiries are coming from.

Norwalk, IA(Zone 5b)

We order about 3000 or more from Horn's each year..great quality and great price!! :-)

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Glad I could help y'all out, and Horns!! I sooooo love Cannas, it's hard to control myself!! Brugie, when he sees them in bloom, he'll hug your neck!!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

been there done that-not doing it anymore!!
Horns is a great place to order from-thats where i got mine
from 2yrs ago-great size tubers-they were all beautiful.
But I have to dig them up and store them and every year i lost more n more storing them! This year im going to pot and sell the rest of them. trade them whatever!!!! Im only keeping my lady di!!! to much work in the fall-chunk that!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

I just started collecting them last year. I already have more than I need, every color. I too, have to dig and store, they do not store well, so have them planted inside in pots, this is becoming too much work, as I love brugs, hibiscus and Passion Flowers, they all need to grow inside all winter. I do not want to be trying to build and heat a GH.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Tell me about it!! Unlike y'all I can leave mine in the ground unless I want to change and expand, which I'm doing this year. And if they do as well as the ones I have now, I'm sure I'll be sending some of them on down the line!!

HORNS IS A GREAT PLACE WITH WONDERFUL PLANTS AND GREAT PRICES. HERE IN OKC, OK I HAVE TO DIG MY BULBS. MY PLANTING AREA IS MOIST AND CONTRIBUTE TO FREEZING. SO, EACH FALL AFTER THE FROST I DAWN MY BOOTS AND SHOVEL AND BEGIN. I STORE MY IN THE GARAGE IN A WASHER BOX. I JUST LAY GRASS HAY AND PEAT AND LAYER THE BULBS. THEY REPRODUCE LIKE CRAZY. I HAVE FOUND FROM MY EXPERIENCE THEY REALLY LIKE MOISTURE. I THROW A LOT OF FIREPLACE ASHES ON THE BED AND THEY GO CRAZY. EVEN MY SHORTER ONES GROW TO 7 FEET HIGH AND MY TALLER ONES GOES UP TO 9 FEET

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

my plants are on the way! I'm very excited. It will still be a bit before they can be put out, but I'll get them going in pots inside. Thanks for the link eyes, what great prices!

Hamilton, Canada

Yall are so lucky down there! You should see what a pitiful selection we can get up here. BUT, having said that I'm going to their site and goggle and drool over their pics...LOL.

EDITED TO SAY...
Oh my goodness-those prices are INCREDIBLE!

Mine too linlin!! Hope everyone gets what they want! Joydie, they will ship up north........LOL!!

eyes,
how many "eyes" are on the tubers? I'm comparing prices with the currency conversion table. I found a site in Canada, but it gives prices for "bulbs". I emailed them to ask if that meant a single budding eye. Another canadian site quotes prices for "bulbs" and I'm thinking that the sites up here with $4-12 Canadian is a lot for only one budding eye. geesh I gotta retire in the south and before an canadian snowbird with permanent residency!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Usually 3 to 5 eyes on the rhizomes Joydie. One eye is a real iffy proposition!! But, it should still be fine if the tuber hasn't dried out any. Can't rhizomes be mailed to Canada?? I thought only green plants with soil was prohibited.

"eyes"

Hamilton, Canada

okay now you have me checking into the regulations. I don't know, but I'm thinking that bulbs have to come into canada with a phyto cert. but I'm not sure about tubers. I'm going off to have a look at Abutilon's canna site for seeds and see if I can find any of the varieties listed at the site you posted...grrrrrrrr I'm getting frustrated...lol. there has to be a cheaper way to get named canna varieties.

Jodie, why don't you see if there is some way you can make it to the roundup we're having in Cooperstown NY,and .....kinda have them with you when you cross back over the border....not smuggling....just kinda ...I don't know, say they want to defect.....to avoid the draft ????

Too 60's ish ,huh?

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Horns say they don't ship outside the continental US. That is too bad. They have some nice stuff.

Hamilton, Canada

CC,
where is Cooperstown? In December we went on a "day trip" to Buffalo to have a look around at the malls. Ended up with really poor instruction at the border when we crossed...got on a highway, passed conestoga and other places that sounded vaguely familiar to me...next thing i realized we we half way to New York city...LOL..turned around and after more poor directions eventually found the mall about 6:30pm...now we left here at 1:00...that's why I say its was a DAY TRIP.

So now inquiring minds want to know
WHEN is the roundup-date and time,
WHAT can I bring-food etc and Snowbird defectors
Where is Cooperstown
How far is Cooperstown from Buffalo?
Is this a weekend long event? Do we need to make reservations somewhere near? Is it close enough to make it there and back in a day?

I've never been to a roundup before and this sounds like it would be a riot!!

Hmmmmm now that I've posted all of that maybe I should check and see if there is a posting on the Roundup forum...duhhhhh

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Ahhhhhhhhh do they check under the food in a cooler box???
Just curious.........and maybe a little devious! Joydie, there may be hope yet!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

gee, you all make me want to order some of these cannas..........but they are a nuisance here. They grow so fast and spread too far and wide. After just 2 years in, my DH has to dig them up to stop the invasion and complains too much about them.

Ellabell, GA(Zone 8a)

I'm itching to order some too, but I already have more plants ordered than I know what to do with (I want everything, sigh!)

If they attract butterflies and hummers I would have a good excuse to get some.
Does somebody know if Cannas have a lot of nectar for my flying friends?

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

Guess what Paintedlady? Hummers dig the heck out of cannas!!! Monarchs like them too! Joydie, don't lose heart sweetie, we'll find a way to get you some cannas!

Does anyone know where to purchase GOOD Valentine rhizomes? I love that one and mine didn't multiply much last year and I shared what I could from them also. Left me with less than I'd like to have. I got my rhizomes from Van Dykes, if I remember right, and wasn't all that pleased with what I got from them for the price.

Gosh, I hope it was okay to say that.

Thanks for the excuse eyes :)
That was fun! I ordered, and ordered, and had a hard time getting up to the minimum $. That doesn't happen too often.
I got 20 different ones.
I think I have a good spot for them. A big low spot that I can fill with some good soil. It should stay pretty moist.
I'm checking it out in the morning.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

eyes, it's still a bit early to put mine out, I'm wondering if I should pot them up or will they be okay just sitting in those bags (they have holes in them)
advise?

Hamilton, Canada

CC did you order any? You guys are so funny, hiding plants in coolers and things, defecting canna tubers... LOL. I'm still thinking that $30 Canadian for 20 tubers is still dirt cheap. Do you think I'll go to h3ll for trying to bring them across the border? Will I be able to sleep at night with a guilty conscious? Or will I dream pleasant thoughts of abundant cannas filled with lush flowers dotting the landscape, and butterflies everywhere?

Kell, grow them in pots. I did that last year so I wouldn't have to dig them up with my bad knees. It was easy then to bring them in, dump out the pots and separate the tubers. I had my brother did the holes and sink the pots and then I just had to lift them. It was really easy.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

Naw,DH says I gotta get rid of the 300 lbs of un named red cannas before I can order any more.......

he didn't say anything about not trading for some......LOL

As for the guilt on so called smuggling.........NOT!

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

What cup size are you Jodie......they ain't gonna frisk you are they?? Sweet Dreams Baby!! tiG, I'm starting some of mine in pots in the house right now like I always do. They will be fine.....just remember to graduate them gently to the elements. Good luck. I was gonna say maybe you could get CC to order the cannas for you and have them there at your roundup for you Joydie!! I'd love to be a fly on the inside of the windshield on your way home!!

"eyes"

Hamilton, Canada

CC,

Sell a bunch of them at a garage sale! Entrepreneurial spirit. Then what's left make sure that everyone goes home from the swap with unknown red cannas. Canna git a witness on that? Amen.

Eyes,
Canna see me going cross the border with a lumpy chest, lol. I've been searched twice. Back in the 70's went to a rally to see Alijah Muhammed. We were all strip searched on the way back. When I was coming back from Amsterdam I was searched, but my girl friend wasn't. Whenever I fly back from Chicago everyone gets to go right through, but they always send me to the other line to check my suitcases. I guess I'm not lucky. Gosh I don't even look like a terrorist...they seem to check all visible minorities.

Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

We tried a garage sale...6 people in 4 days......

We live at the end of a 5 mile dead end.....

not a lot of trffic.....

I did sell a box of them at a poultry aution last year,22 bucks for a beer case full.....

And Jodie1 ,email me thru daves...for some reason your mail isent going thru...
I need your address for the seeds......
