Cat pee effect on germination?

St. augustine, FL(Zone 9a)

I know this is really gross, but my cat got into my personal seed stash (not my trade list ones) and peed on some of the seed packages. I've left them outside to dry out and hopefully that will get rid of some of the stink, but does anyone know if the seeds would still be viable? I hate to throw them all away.

I would think they'd be okay as long as they didn't really soak in it. It would depend on the seed but most have a hard seed coat and it would take a prolonged soaking for them to absorb it. When you plant them give them a rinse before the go into the soil.

Don't you just love it!! I don't know how many drying seed trays my cat has knocked off my counter. Usually she does it on purpose too. Makes me want to ring her neck!

Since all the seeds were packaged in paper packets, I think the paper absorbed most of it and I'm hoping the seeds didn't get too good a soaking. I think I will just repackage them and then try for the best. Thanks for the advise.

Poppysue, mine do that too. They rub their noses against them till they knock them over. One cat decided to sleep in a seed drying tray, had seeds all over her fur.

I am laughing so hard at this post, not really because its funny but because my cats drive me crazy this time of year when I am doing things in the sunroom.
They pee in my Brug pots ( this was a real problem), she chewed the callas I have growing and two out of 10 I had to pull up the bulb, and yes they like to knock over my seed bin if I forget and leave it out.
AND TODAY they decided to eat all the baby spider plants that are hanging from the window!
You should see my one big pot of a tropical plant I have int he dining room, it has sticks poking out of it and it looks ugly but I figured if she tried to pee in it again she would get a stick up her butt and stop doing that!

Urea contributes to soil fertility. Ammonia doesn't. ;~)

LOL And to think of all the perfectly good placentas I have wasted! ROTF Sorry Karen, hope your seeds are okay.
