Jt's seedling

Jt, I know you said this was not your seedling but Earls...do you think you could find out from Earl just what it's parentage is? I really do like this plant and intend on keeping it. Right now it is just called JT's seedling.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

love the skirt on this!

I'd really like to find out more about this plant before giving it a name......I beleive the only cuttings I gave out are to Donna in MS and Larry in AL and they have it marked as JT's seedling. Maybe JT can help me out on this one. JJJJJJJJJJJJTTTTTTTT where are you???????

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

he's working 10 hours a day, poor guy!!

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

OOh...pretty, looks like it might have Jean Pasko as one parent, shape of bloom, plus color/darker edge?

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Very pretty Glory. Hopefully you can find out what it is.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Here I am.I will try to get in touch with Earl. Then if we can remember which seed these were maybe he can come up with lineage.I'm betting Dr.S had something to do with this.I have been curious to find out what happened to Earl anyway. Will see if I can get in touch with him this weekend.

JT,
Thanks.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

I see Jean Pasko in it which is one of my favorite brugs. Love the shape and color Gloria.

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Oh nice to see the new baby I have.

Donna,
Do me a favor and don't give any out until we get more info on it....I know it's just a baby but if I don't tell you now I'll forget...CRS. LOL

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

Glory,
I will do the same.

Larry,
See CRS has already got me I forgot I gave you a cutting. LOL
How's the Brug rooting coming along? I have more Brugs in the Greenhouse then I have Greenhouse. LOL I either need a larger GH or go on a diet....big butt keeps hitting the plants.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

I telephoned Earl (Valley Growers) this past weekend. He is definately not dead, hasn't been eaten by a Florida rattlesnake or alligator and,in fact, hasn't even been sick.He says he did get fed up with the email overload on Ebay so stopped selling there at least for the time being. He invited us all back for next springs swap.
I asked about the seedling that started this thread.
No chance for a positive fix on both parents but he did say that the pod was off the huge Dr Seuss we saw growing there.Other parent could be anything. He has JP,FP,IP,SG,VW
and VP growing nearby.
It was nice to talk to him again.Ann and I may ride up there next weekend.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

well, I'm glad he's okay JT, thanks for calling him!!! hope he'll get back in it.

JT,
Thanks so much for asking Earl....I guess this could be called a Dr. Seuss Hybrid? Does any one have a picture of a Solid Gold?

Are we planning on a Spring Plant Swap this year in FL?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Solid Gold: http://brugmansias.com/showpicture/3791/

I don't think this plant has SG in it....I'm betting it's a Jean Pasko x Dr Seuss....like Hibiscus said.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Gloria,I think you are probably right, most likely JP.
This pic is my SG.It changes to a more golden color as it ages.

JT,
Got some extra pollen from that one for the old Pollen banker here?

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

I believe it's bloomng now in the greenhouse.I will check tomorrow and collect some.

Montgomery, AL(Zone 8a)

Glory,
I have run out of room too. Will have to build new GH just for all the brugs to over winter next yr. You know I only have a little tail, but it keeps bumping & breaking everything in my current GH, more like a jungle house now and still have cuttings to pot up. Have a happy Thanksgiving. Hope Ron is continuing to get better. Later.

Westbrook, ME(Zone 5a)

Glory is there any special way you want tthe pollen to be collected? I figure ... it doesn't look like I'll have too much for seed to contribute so I'll focus on pollen for now. I've been plucking out the entire anthers, drying, and storing them in glassine envelopes. Seems to be working okay for me but I don't know how that would be for you. Any directions for us to follow?

Larry,
you are so funny....even little tails can get in the way if your greenhouse is full. LOL

I just received an email from a lady in Ocean Springs.... she will be by this weekend to get the rest of the Brugs that are still in the yard. We are supposed to get freezing temps tonight so I cut them down for her and stuck them in the greenhouse with the rest of that mess.

Donna,
Know a Janet in Ocean Springs?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Glory you missed poppy's question, y'all posted at the same time.

Dripping Springs, TX

Glory you still have brugs in the yard?---Are they in Pots?

Poppysue,
Yes.....I'm here...talking to much today. LOL

When collecting the pollen the most important thing is to let it dry before sealing it up. I normally just let my pollen sit out on a paper plate for two days.... then it is good and dry....you can leave the pollen on the antlers.
Be sure you put the name of the pollen and the date collected on the envelope or attach a note to the envelope.

Your envelopes should be fine.
I use those little reclosable craft bags...size 2"x3"...you can get them at Walmart in the craft section...100 for 97cents.

You can just drop the little packet of pollen into a regular envelope and mail to me...please make sure you let me know who the envelope is coming from.

I'm sure I miss half of what you wanted to know so if you have any more question Please ask me.

Dripping Springs, TX

Ok--You mail the pollen to each other? How long is the pollen viable?

DR,
Poppy is going to mail pollen for BGI member...I'm the pollen banker for BGI. Pollen can be kept in the fridge for a few moths but need to be put in the freezer after that. We still are no sure how long it can stay in the freezer and still be viable...maybe Monika can answer that question for us.

Yes, I still have Brugs in the ground...we haven't had a freeze here yet but it's looking like maybe tonight might be the magic night...supposed to get down to 32º tonight...we'll see. About half of my Brugs stay in the ground all year...I just cut them back after a freeze..... if they come back the next year all and good if not I have lots of replacements. :0)

Dripping Springs, TX

Hummmm Glory thanks! Your always full of suprises.
Now If I can think of a way to keep my "eggs" like the pollen... grin

DR,
Eggs?

Dripping Springs, TX

I'm pushing 40--get it. I bet Owen did!

DR,
Got it!!!! Pushing 40....please you are just a youngster...I'm old enough to be your Mom.

Dripping Springs, TX

Tell that to my eggs!

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Hi Gloria
No I have never met a lady named Janet from here. How did you meet?? From here?? All cuttings I have shared have been out of state. I have not cut anything back yet and need to so I will have some backs ups just in case. Don't ask me where I am going to put them; the GH if full. I guess I can put them under the shelves. They will get some light. I did find tiny seed pods on the Whiskers and Jean Pasko today and took cuttings of them. So far I am having great luck in rooting cuttings with the seed pods. I assume they are the parents of each other as they are only about 8 feet away from each other, but could also be from monster brug or Dr. Suess which are about 15 and 20 feet away.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I tried rooting cuttings with large pods, but that didn't work for me. Maybe the secret is to do the small ones. Hope you have all the luck in the world with them. Happy Thanksgiving too....

S,
I just rooted a cutting with to very large pods on it...I think the secret is the age of the cane....my cane was a hardwood....I'll get a picture of the cuttings to show you how large the podsare...if I can remember. LoL

Donna,
Janet will be by on Sunday...let you know more then. If you get a seed pod to develope I wouldn't mark the father unless you hand polleniated it yourself...the bees and moths travel from far and wide...just my 2 cents.
