Well, my brugs are popcicles this morning. I took the cuttings of the seedlings last night and my hands were so cold, brrrrrrrrr. It was 39º at the time. I got up around 6am and it was 27º and fell to 24º by 7am. I took Wally out for a walk and the leaves on the ground were all crunchy!! I'm sure glad all my special ones are in the Jungle House.
24ºF this morning
SOOOOO SAD!
i'm sure glad you have the jungle house too. i just uncovered my pods. was 36 on my deck at 7. took a few pics. i took a pic of the nematodes yesterday, will post later, but off the plant i pulled up around 10/5. that will baby is lying there putting out new growth. they say if you leave the plants in the sun it will kill the nematodes. these were nasty looky, whiskers just had a couple of places where roots were enlarged. is 7 foot and blooming and in a pot now, guess i'll ask the ag people about that too. so your winter has started. it's about to be about as cold here tonight, then lows in the upper 40s and 50s the rest of the week here. my one kyle's pink X rosamond has been getting yellow the last few days. if i get an urge i'll pick off those isabellas instead......
Hey Calla,it warmer here than you are.Its 34 out right now, still snowing though......
awwwwwwww so sad!
This is the one cold night this week, all the rest of the week it's above freezing. CC, I'll keep the cold, you keep the snow!! There was a little patch of ice on the interstate in town, lots of cars had minor boo-boos from it, we can't drive in snow and ice around here.
Oh it is so sad.
I just went out and looked at stuff. Looks like we got a little frost, but the stuff under the trees didn't have any. Good thing I am off today so I can get the rest of the stuff moved that has to be moved.
Arlene, this is just to early for this. Hope it doesn't mean we are going to have a long winter.
CC you can keep your snow, brrr!
Dee, it's much too early for us to be this cold!! This is December weather!! Wonder if Dave got a frost? He's a bit south of me, but usually much warmer.
Dee, we had one of these middle of last november. everyone on the forum but me cut back and loaded greenhouses. my plants weren't hurt. it was 6-7 weeks later before we had our real frost around christmas.
Arlene, I remember that. The pipe on my well froze, I think it was Christmas day wasn't it?? I don't remember a frost last Nov though. I have most of my brugs already in the greenhouse, did that this weekend, but still have a few in the ground yet. Doesn't look like it really hurt anything though.
Susie, I think I am going to try your method of storing stuff. Need to find some place to put the passiflora's so I think I will put them in the pots of brugs.
Don't have much left that needs to be moved, so hopefully I can get most of it done today. Just waiting for it to get a little warmer outside.
I know, just call me a wuse
Dee, it didn't freeze, did just like today. i was just so glad i didn't cut back like everyone else. doesn't look like a thing has been hurt, expect my blooms to finish opening. time will tell on my pods.
last year we got robbed by the frost on AUGUST 29th! and then it was pretty nice till late oct! Im so sorry that ya'll got hit so early down south! we had snow on sunday morning-it was only a small dusting but it was snowing! :P
i cried this year when the frost hit us HARD! =[
It's very sad to walk outside and see your little babies all frozen solid!! Guess I won't have to worry about bringing anymore inside.
Oh no so sorry Cala so cold up there. Hope not too much loss your brugs.
So far so good here...no frost yet.
BTW...Ron is still in the hospital so I jump on the computer and check Daves when ever possible.
It's sure a sad sight when the frost finally gets everything. I woke up to winter wonderland this morning with everything white.
Gloria, so sorry to hear Ron is still in the hosp. Hope he gets well enough to come home soon.
Snow, you keep the snow up there for a while!! We will take a bit for Christmas(I'll be down south then, lol).
Glory, hope everything is okay with Ron!!
That looks so sad. I think we were down around 20 last night. I'm sure glad you have greenhouse space for most of your brugs. You can still enjoy and take pictures for us to enjoy.
Update....Ron was released from the hospital this afternoon.....he is really doing super.
Glory,
Glad to hear that! Tell him we are watching his progress!
We got to low 40's last night and all is well here still. I will cut mine back this weekend, leaving for San Fran and don't want to take a chance while I am gone. I sure hate to cut them though. Being new to this I discovered seed pods yesterday! Lord only knows what they are and I doubt if they will survive but it sure is fun watching them.
Glad to hear yall are home Glory, I hope he continues to feel better each day.
It is good to know that Ron is home and past the worst part of recovery. Bet he was glad to be out of the hospital and you were probably just as glad. Take care of both of you.
That is great news. Glad he is home.
Thanks all,
Yes, we are both happy to be home full time now. I have lots and lots of work to do around my yard and Ron can sit on the patio and watch me if he likes.
So glad to hear the news that Ron is home. Now you can both take a well deserved rest.

Hi Glory.......so good to hear all is getting better!
Oh how awful, and I thought it was cold here!

"eyes"
My aunt raises horses and florist fern near Daytona beach in Fla. and she got frost. Texas is lookin' better. I lived a few years in MASS. and I feel for those of you in cold climates.
desertrose,
I used to live in San Antonio and we had 13 inches of snow one winter in the mid 80's........you are just west of Austin correct.
Oh Glory don't do that to me! I was about ready to take a dip in my pool!
Desertrose,
We had a pool in San Antonio too and the snow around it was really a very pretty sight. How long have you lived in Dripping Springs?
For all of you on the MS Gulf Coast.....it is supposed to get down to 30º Sat. morning. Donna time to drag all the cuttings inside. Roz and Marie....I'm sure your greenhouse is already full. I'm as ready as I'm going to get...still got Dr. Suess and Jessie Noel blooming up as storm.
