3 c volunteer seedling

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

i am so stingy today!!!!! i just planted my 28 seeds in a pot just for me! the pods are relatively thin up top, then go fat. i need to take a pic for the PDB.
i do have another KP X rosamond getting close to ripen, and many moth pollinated ones.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

arlene, if I'd only had 28, I'd have planted them all too.

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

arlene, lovely "volunteer" you have the special touch!

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Arlene, I would have planted them all too!!

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Good for you Arlene. Hoping they turn into something special for you.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Good luck with them Arlene. I like the soft color of the mother plant. Very pretty.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I can't wait for the summer, hope we all get great blooms!!
I esp hope I get the best ones!!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

we're going to have to start calling you Mother Earth Arlene.

Matthews, MO(Zone 6b)

I can't wait to see your pictures next summer. Those should be great.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

thanks, all. Liz, i am as round as mother earth.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

LOL - says who!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Arlene . . I hope you get something really special from those 28 seeds. Oh, and I read that you put them in a pot and did not scatter them on the ground ..LOL I see now that you worry about those special ones and that makes me feel more normal!! Well, at least a little normal anyway.

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

frannie i stuck them all in one of those wide short round pots. that way i can move them if i want! i thought that showed confidence!!!!
i had a butterfly pod that had one mature seed in it, strange. got to get busy busy and get all this stuff planted!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

The work is just beginning Miss Arlene!

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I had a Whiskers pod that was ready today and it only had 35 seeds in it. Another pod from Strawberry Creme had 256 seeds. I wonder why the huge difference. Hope you get some pretty ones from this cross you just planted.

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Brugie, I just know that there are going to be some beautiful seedlings next year. That sure is a big difference in seeds being in pods. I wonder if it has to do with the pollination.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

I'm sure it does, but why? I pollinate all my brugs the same way. Some must take the pollen better than others. Of course if my Whiskers pod had been full of 256 seeds, it would have been the size of a water glass. :-)

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Could it be that there is a perfect time after the blooms opens to pollinate and get the most seeds. Maybe even a couple hours could make a difference in how it takes the pollen. Just making guesses here Miss Brugie. I know that you are pollinating them all the same but could it be the number of hours that the flower has been open. Maybe someone will come along that can give more info on this subject.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Beats me. I've pollinated open flowers and unopened flowers. More of the later because I don't want the moths to beat me to it. :-) I'm just happy that I got a few seeds. Hoping that next year I can get some better crosses. Did you get a lot of pods to set and hold on?

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

Congrats Arlene and Shirley, here's hoping you both end up with something special. It is going to be so exciting next year to see the results of some of the crosses.
