I was wakened by the thunder and checked the TV for information on the status of the storms and found out that many Eastern states had suffered terribly with a report of 18 dead and many casualties. This is heartbreaking!! Please check in guys so that we know you are OK. My prayers and thoughts are with the families of the deceased and all those who are hurt and have lost their homes.
Tornadoes, Storms
Margaret, good morning! I didn't check the weather today, but sure need to since we are in the middle of replacing the roof.
Aimee what are you doing up at this time?? I think you are going to be OK regarding the rain. Didn't see anything so far that would affect you, so you should be able to get the roof completed.
Haven't been to bed yet, Margaret, just can't think about sleep. I think Tera is too much on my mind. All the things we discussed the other night, you know, just keep going round in my head. I hate when I can't put something away and there are no immediate answers.
And I thought I was a night owl .... sheesh, you both are ALL-NIGHT OWLS.
Isn't it time you tried to get a wee bit of sleep girls??
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*
Ah, Barry, we were waiting for you to make an appearance. Now maybe I can get to dreamland, my prince has ordered me to bed!
We had atleast 11 tornados touchdown in the surrounding counties where I live, so far 4 people have died and also 3 hospitals were hit by the tornados. Alot of schools are closed today, some houses in Port Clinton Ohio were actually blown into Lake Erie. A thirty car train was derailed, semi-truck were blown off of the expressway. THere is damage everywhere, more so in the rural areas. Gas leaks from the destroyed houses are a real problem, also alot of water main breaks. We really have to wait until daylight to survey the damage. It was a devestating Sunday afternoon yesterday.
Becky
That sounds terrible Becky ... those poor people!!!
Thank goodnesss we don't get anything like that here in Europe, well at least, not in the scale of the American tornados.
Keep your head down

I was up till after midnight last night as the storms passed over. Two different tornados touched down, one about 20 miles away with 7 confirmed dead, 45 missing. The other about 10 miles away, but no injuries from that one, just roofs and walls missing. We had high winds, heavy rain and small hail.
I was watching the 11pm news and saw all the devestastion in Tn was praying that everyone was ok-hope to here from everyone soon!!!
This is a nasty front going through and I think they just said bad weather around Columbus, Ga. We have a few members around there. Even Gardness Trish is visiting that area! Let us hear from ya'll to know everyone is ok.
we had horrible weather early this a.m. around 3 a.m. It has been a long time since I've seen lightening like that. It was one strike after another for 3 solid hours. The wind was blowing very strong, but no tornadoes. I am sure there was a strike not far from the house, it was so loud. It is still very cloudy and looks like more is on the way. I think we had close to 2 inches of rain.
usually weather doesn't frighten me, but when the thunder started at about 4, I had to climb off the ceiling. I was truly afraid for the first time in years.
We're fine, no damage here, but somewhere there are 33 people dead. We anticipated that with the Hurricane not long ago and were spared. This just shakes me that 33 people are gone overnight. Please pray for their families.
just heard a baby was sucked out of parents arms in GA, still alive but being moved to another hospital right now.
Everything goes fine here just heavy rain all night along with lighting no nosie or tornado here so sorry to hear that people died from that. Pray for them.
Have we heard from Badseed and Mystic??? How about the rest of our Tennesseans, and southerners?? Carol? Darius?
Shoe?

I tell you, I have lived in a lot of different places (including tornado alley) and I've never seen a tornado outbreak that fierce and long-lasting. East TN was pounded non-stop with tornadoes from 7:00pm until a little after midnight. Morgan County (two counties to the west of us) got not 1, not 2, not 3, not 4, NOT EVEN 5 but 6 tornado warnings last night. The supercells came rolling in one after the other. We had a few of them (got the kids up and played and read books in the hall linen closet as they passed).
Morgan County definitely had casualties. A church was in service when it was hit and the roof caved in.
CNN said: "A meteorologist with the National Weather Service's Storms Prediction Center said it was the worst outbreak of tornadoes in years."
No doubt about it. I've seen tornado outbreaks before (I was in North Texas in 1999 and that was nothing like this. Oofta. http://www.cnn.com/2002/WEATHER/11/11/severe.storms/index.html
dave
glad yall ok dave, I was a little concerned when I saw Morgan County was hit.
talking to Carol, they won't get it until this afternoon
I just had a call from Tnmom...my DIL...she said they were all OK...no electric power...but my son, Keith, is with the Search and Rescue Squad...they have been out all night...still out searching. It hit over in Crab Orchard...near the Lake's Retreat where we had the round up...Pray for Ed and Shirley. Ed has done so much work on his campgroud!! I hope things are OK for them...They are such nice people. Praying for all of you in the storms path! Jo
The whole east coast is going to get hit today. I hope everyone is safe. This is just terrible!
We had warnings yesterday around detroit area! We only had one thunderstorm here it lasted 15min!
Im praying here!
It's spooky here right now...having gone thru one tornado on this farm b4 I'm a nervous wreck..I tend to stay up all nite when it gets like this.
Watched news, heard warnings/alerts constantly. We've had some funnel clouds spotted but no touch-downs. Tornado warnings (not watches) are in effect everywhere. Plus severe T-storm warnings, predicting sizable hail. No fun.
Right now it's a drizzle rain, low sky, weather radio keeps going off. Plus I have my weather page up on the screen watching it all move (slowly) over us and to the northeast...probably to Carols area in VA.
Last I heard, there were at least 16 dead in TN and 32 nationwide from this weekend's storms - many still missing, so that number may rise again.
The good thing about yesterday's weather is that it was so warm (81 degrees!) I was able to get in the big pond and clean out the leaves (again), and then DH and I got the birdnetting in place, so that chore is done for the season. Our poor resident froggy tried to leap in last night, and the netting acted like a trampoline! (At least he didn't get caught - we would have been out there trying to untangle him, and I would have been in the water again!)
I will phone Peggy and see if she has heard from Michelle. Daren't phone Chele in case she's asleep and was working last night. This really was one terrible night. So many deaths and destruction and people still unaccounted for. God help them!! I don't know if we will be badly affected in this area but do expect some storms.
Just spoke with Peggy and they are fine and she thinks Chele is OK too. So that's a relief!
We are fine here.We just got the thunderstorms.I haven't heard from Chele, she worked last night but I will let ya know as soon as I hear from her.
i heard alabama got hit hard any one know where about- i have family there in birmingham and sand mountain! havent been able to get through to either place!
Hmmm...isn't Smiln in Alabama? Has she checked in?
We have a lot of members in Alabama. Although she is not subscribed anymore, Imaseedpicker is there. I need to try to email her.
dori I think Walker County was affected and the power lines are down. Try not to think the worst, I know that's a tough call. Hang in there love!!
I live in Tornado Alley, and we haven't had any damaging supercells hit a poplated area like this since the late 70's. My heart and my prayers are with you all!! Smilin32 is in Montgomery, Alabama.

Thanks for thinking of me, folks. We're about an hour south of the most severely hit area. We have at least 11 dead here in the state, though, so much to pray about.
Talked to badseed and she is fine. It didn't hit there either.
what a scary series of storms. I watched the news last night and was really hoping that none of the DG family was in the path of destruction. It is so scary.
I hope the worst is over for you guys.
The first news I read this morning was in our Vancouver Sun(daily newspaper).....Tennessee!!! then I immediately remembered Dave in Tenn. I can't imagine a tornado hitting lana! We have earth tremors nearly every day..some low, never really up there in the 7's(Alaska)..stay safe all of you from us in Canada! Elaine
Carla, so happy to see your post!
Better, better......y'all let us know as you hear from someone!
