"Ms. Anna"

Auburn, WA(Zone 8b)

I've been a lurker for a while & thought maybe someone could tell me if this brug has another name. I got it winter of 2000 from a lady in LA. She said she got hers from a cutting of a plant in another lady's yard. I believe she said the other lady brought it from Germany. (The German lady's name was Anna & so that's what she called the plant.) The inside of the flower is not as white as Frosty Pink and the pink is not as dark as Pink Favorite. It stays the same shade of pale pink. It blooms constantly, not in flushes. It blooms very young - when only two or three feet tall. It has a "bushy" habit. It does not send single stalks straight up. Many go out more like branches. The leaves are not serrated but wavy/rippley on the edges. The fragrance is not as strong as others I have. It forms seed pods without my help. It did seem to get more yellow leaves than my other varieties when the temp. got to 90. It roots very easily & I now have quite a few of her! Does she sound the same as any other brug you know of?

I don't know but it is a beauty, if one of the heavy hitters comes along they will know, so bump!

Sewcrazy, I grow it too. I don`t know, what its name is or if it ha one. The specimen is probably propagated from the Netherlands and sold in North Europe. It is a very fast grrower with a strong, well developed crown of thick branches loaded with flowers. Next summer the color will be stronger. Here close to the winter mine has nearly white flowers, but come spring the color will be like in your picture. During the hot summer time the pink turns deep pink and close to red.

Thanks for the cuttings Linda and the info Tonny. Now I am really excited. I can't wait to see them bloom in the hot and humid south.

Here it is in summer color. There is still a bit green left on the tube, but the margin make a fine contrasting deep pink. :)

Tonny, Thanks for the information! I've had my first Ms. Anna for two summers now & it's never gotten darker pink. A lot of the flowers are nearly white now and much smaller. We don't have hot summers, though. We had three days this past summer where it was 90+F and the first one was the first day since 1998 that we had gotten over 90F. This would be a good place to grow sangs. I need some!
Donna, I will be curious to hear what color yours are next summer. The cuttings you sent me are doing great.
Anna_Z, I have several big plants of Ms. Anna due to my cuttings of last winter. I have lots of this years' cuttings in pots rooting and lots more cuttings I can get off the still blooming (indoors & greenhouse) older plants. I would be happy to trade with you (or anyone else) for cuttings I don't have. I will also send for postage. (I'm always disappointed when I see cuttings of things I would love to have as trade only. The person generally already has everything I would have to trade.)

Sewcrazy, what are the ph-level of the Brug soil? The color come best true at 7.0. 8.0 is too high, but 6.5 will also do. :) I grow mine in spaghnum and water with water solutable fertilizer 14-5-12 NPK and micro nutrients. + I add dolomit calcium (calcium and magnesium and iron). I ad 10 grams for smaller plants and 20-30 grams for large trees and bushes 3 times weekly in the high season. Both ph-level and nutrition level are important to flower color and the Brugs are very demanding in regard of nutrition. :)

This was my first flower after I bought the plant. I don`t know, what they had fed it in the garden center, but it couldn`t be that much. *lol* The flower was pale as a renissance woman at summer solistic. *LOL*

After feeding it for 1-2 weeks the flowers came out like this one. That was before I adjusted the ph-level and still in the beginning of May.

Tonny, I will check the ph level. I use good potting soil from the store & fertilize with Miracle Grow every 5 to 7 days in the summer. All plants are indoors/greenhouse now and I have stopped fertilizing. The Anna's have not stopped blooming but most of the other varieties have. Thanks so much for your help & advice! I'm sure I am not the only person who finds this helpful.
