Yellow/Orange seedling from Calalily

Cala: You gave me a seedpod last April, and it was dried by mid May. I sowed the seeds and had 6 seedlings in the ground by last June. The first of that group has bloomed!

This is the only bloom yet, but there is one more than it about to open.

Cala great job! and you live close enough to snap:) hey dave, are you going to be taking cuttings??? cause it's gonna freeze back anyway (hint hint)
what was the cross??

Hehehe, well, Cala you get the credit, as these -are- your seeds. :)

If you want these plants, let me know and I'll save them for you. Otherwise when the frost comes, they go! You better speak up quick!

Dave and Cala, you did a good job on this one. I've seen a lot of nice crosses this summer. Maybe next year...........red????

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

Dave you either have a magic camera or that's one of the prettiest seedlings i've seen all summer. who are the mom and pop?

Thanks - these look in real life identical to the pictures. It is a nice color, I think. I don't know the mom or pop, cala might!

You havent left yet????

(Zone 6a)

Dave....how is the fragrance??

Cala....why are you still here? LOL

Yes, it has a fragrance. It's been raining so much lately though that I haven't been able to enjoy this one too much. The one time I checked for fragrance, it was quite powerful and pleasant.

dave

I'll see about rooting a few cuttings in case anyone wants any. I wish the other 5 would bloom, but I don't think they will before the frost. So I'll dig them and bring them in and see what they do next year.

Kingston, OK(Zone 7a)

Dave if you do start any Could I Have One???

Dave that's lovely. Way to go Cala. Go figure, you'd give away all your coloured seeds. Grab a cutting of that for yourself Cala. It's very pretty.

Well, I just went outside and checked him. He's 6 feet tall and has almost no rootable branches that I can see. I think I'll have to cut him down and do the "log method" (I'm not sure what you call it, but you know what I mean) to get some cuttings. In that case, it may be a few months before I can get cuttings out to people.

Cala: If you want the whole thing, you can have it. If not, I'll root cuttings.

Congrats Dave and way to go Cala. Sure does look pretty . . are you going to name it? I will get in line if there is one.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Dave, a cutting will be good, I'm so out of room. Nowhere to put a 6 ft tree!! Are you going to name it?
Forgot to ask, was it one of the pods from Dr Seuss?

This message was edited Monday, Oct 28th 6:40 PM

Well, if you are going to let me name it, I'll call it "Orange Cat", since it has orange blooms, has extra long whiskers, and our cat (who goes by the same name, and is also orange) tore up the bottom of it by scratching at it when it was a bit younger.

:)

I don't know if it came from Dr. Suess, (you never told me and I wasn't paying attention to what tree you grabbed the pod off of) but the foliage looks identical to the Dr. Suesses I have here.

dave, if you're going to cut it down, the trunk would make fabulous trees for the rest of us. and many of us trade unrooted cuttings. I would love to trade, send postage, whatever for a 4" piece of the trunk.
