I just got off the Chatroom. How can anyone keep up with the speed of the conservations? I feel like I just got off the merry-go-round. Wow!
Help, let me off!
Awwwwww man! I can't seem to stay connected tonight for some reason?! O well maybe next one. I know what cha mean though they do get wound up every now and then and half the time I can't keep up with who is talking to who LOL I have to have lots of coffee to keep up with them!
i can't handle the fast phase, make me dizzy which is why i hardly go into the chat room. i can type fast and respond, but get dizzy reading what is posted by everyone.
A good tip I learned a while back about the chat room is to increase your font size (it's one of the buttons to the right of the chat screen.)
Setting it to 16 point font keeps the conversation from scrolling by so quickly :)
When i reading the fast flowing lines of words,i have to put on my (QQ).
HAH...you had me guessing there for a second, Jianhua! My mind was wondering QQ? (cue-cue?) Then it hit me! Very good!
I was in for a bit last nite, then tried to sneak out quietly while others talked about Brugs. (I wanted to read the forums...if I don't keep up I get too far behind and miss out.)
well, you could have said goodnight you know!!!
Increasing the font size helps a lot but it is still a battle keeping up with what is going on. I am now resorting to just mostly lurking and reading. I make an occasional "grunt or groan" but mostly just remain relatively silent. That way I am being sociable but not really chatty. I don't do that in person but DG chat is a lot different from "real live in person talk". I figure what works best for each participant is fine. To each his or her own.

I tried just lurking and reading, then someone always says "Hibiscus are" you there? Makes me feel like I am eavesdropping!
(Uh-ohhh...I'm in trubble now. Again, :>(
I'll do better, tiG. I promise.
thank you shoe!!! Gloria, it's not that, usually we just want to draw people out or ask them a question.
I know....
Farizona has a problem keeping up with reading and typing fast enough, but wont miss the opportunity to be there whenever possible! Enjoy every
minute of it!
"Lurking" isn't too hard to do.:-)
DG's friendly folks are so much fun!!
Me to *LOL*
I don't go in because I know I can't keep up.
and to go in just to lurk, no I don't wanna do that.
Carmen
well now... I pop in while at work, then run home and try to log on at home...then a million interruptions, but I try to log on at least for a couple of minutes and throw my 2 cents worth of nonsense into the chat..
I don't mind lurking. If something comes up that I want to add to I pop in! It is challenging at times though. I LIKE IT!!!!
I've tried the Chat Room, but, like most of you have said, it moves too fast for my fingers and my brain. It's like a revolving door... you hesitate to jump in, then you hesitate to get out! About all I learned is that it is polite to say hello when you log on and polite to say goodbye when you log off, allowing a little time for everyone to say goodbye. Everything in-between that is pretty confusing!
The folks in the chat room always try to bring me into the conversation, but for the life of me, I don't know what they are talking about! I finally figured out that there are several conversations going on at once, and you've got to figure out who is talking to whom, then dive in. I've always been better at wading than diving, so I don't think the chat room is my cup of tea.
On the forums, I can make a comment, read replies, then consider my next post. Sometimes I even hesitate before I hit that send button, considering if my comment might be offensive or inarticulate. I think that's a good thing... for me anyway! Goodness knows what I'd blurt out in the Chat Room!
I'll give it another try one of these days, because it looks like fun, but I'll wait for a day when I'm firing on all cylinders!
Yes, i find the chatroom pretty fast and furious too. But try and follow just one conversation and come in with the odd thing on that.
One thing, although, as you say Weez, there's no time to consider your reply, at least it doesn't sit there reproaching you for long. No sooner sent than it's off the top of the screen. That way it's not there for people to read for ever more LOL.
It's fun, but can be very confusing.
BTW Dave
Thanks for putting the countdown back on. It was a shame i was just too tired last night, otherwise i would have been there. But i wouldn't have known it was on without the timer :)
Hey folks, I think there is still a Thursday morning chatroom, and it is much less crowded, and thereby slower moving. Some of ya'll may want to try that. (I know it's over at 10 a.m. but don't know what time it starts.)
It may give ya'll some practice to visit it. And also, what w/there being less people there is not 20 conversations going on at the same time and easier to keep up.
Hibiscus, I don't mind being the quiet person at the party. I say hi and bye and a few things in between. No need in missing out on everything just because it is faster than my brain or fingers.
Good idea Shoe! I think that the time begins at 7:00a/m--10:00a/m on Thursday mornings
I'd love to try the Thursday morning Chat Room, but I think I'd have to get up at 3am to join in. If you think I'm slow thinking during the day, you ought to catch me at 3am!
Wellm Weez, if you ever have a sleepless in Seward moment at 3am, join in!
I'll do that, Celia, but you'll have to poke me in the ribs every once in a while to stop my snoring! That's what my DH does!
Blush. I guess I still type too fast huh? I am very tired on the Tuesday evening sessions, so my brain doesn't work too hard. I love having the opportunity to *talk* with so many friends. We really don't mind the "lurkers", and if we ask about you, we really are trying to be friendly, not nosy or interfering. Sometimes we all need to let off steam, and most comments are taken with many grains of salt, so don't be afraid that what you type will be taken too literally, at least, not at first.
Any of you who feel overwhelmed, if I am responsible, I apologize. Most Tuesday nights I am very stressed out, and being able to come here and relax is just what I need! The other night I even stayed away from visiting the hospital so I could relax with my friends.
I would love to chat with you, Shoe! If you can fit it into your schedule, can you check in earlier? Mostly I am too dazed by 8 or 8:30 to keep going. I love your sense of humor. I would love to hear a discussion between you and Wintermoor and Azalea. For that, I would also be a "lurker" (grin) That was my hope for last Tuesday, but it seemed few of us could sustain any silliness.
Weezin, a lot of people are in the Thursday room, but very sporadic; I work Tuesday and Thursday mornings, so am not often able to be there. But many of the people new to chatrooms love that time. Check it out! And the same for all the others who don't want to try to get into the crowded Tuesday night ones.
It's online now lupine, but noone else was there.
A good time to practice i spose, but i spend enough time already talking to myself LOL
Too bad I can only join the "American chat" on holidays, as it starts 2 am our time...
What's the time with you now then Evert?
Chatroom's open.........
15:00. And no one's there.... I left.
arrrgggh!! I can't stay connected!! My puter seems messed up for some reason, guess I need to do a clean up or something in order to stay on there...its enough to make ya ill !!!
The main problem I find on the chat room is that, when I check-in, everyone says Hi Winter, or Hi WM, or Hi Barry, which for the first part is great!!
Then I start to answer,
Hi AZ
Hi "eyes"
Hi pebble
Hi GL
etc.
While I'm saying "HI" to everyone, the questions start rolling in:
what we drinking tonight Winter?
how's the garden doing WM?
You're up late WM, aren't you tired?
then trying to answer with my middle speed typing
Wine
Fine
no not yet
which are normally broken up with answers and quotes to other conversations which were going on before I arrived, then the picture goes like
WM: Wine
**: I say we should do more of that, let's get a group going
WM: Fine
**: Oh you wanna join in WM?
!!: ******'s are just stunning
WM: no not yet
**: well whadya mean fine ya dork!!!
!!: you should see how they hang
WM: no I meant
**: what?
WM: that my garden is fine
$$: well Winter aint we getting a drink?
%%: I did that a lot years ago
WM: Yes of course Ladies, *passes the bottle over to ***
%%: but can't since my DS left
"": when do you go to bed WM
%%: after you with the bottle ***
$$: Hey my glass empties quickly
§§: mine are still pointing upwards
WM: mine too
etc
etc
Well you can get into all sorts of trouble, trying to keep three conversations going.
I would prefer if I could open up the page to full screen, then I could at east have a dogs chance of keeping up, but sometimes before I get a chance to type my answer and click it in, I see another question to me just disappearing over the top of the page, so I have to scroll back down and try to figure out what coversation that was.
Then I get tired.
Just a warning..... don't try it half drunk.... I did once and it took me about 10 minutes to say Hi to about 5 people..... hic***
It's fun though, and you people on it are a great laff!!!
Wintermoor
lol wintermoor - thanks for that lovely little display of how chatrooms work....
yes, it is challenging at times to keep up with what is what, but half the fun is watching someone else's conversation and add a comment here or there, then get into it and then start confusing other people.
Maybe it just takes practice...lol
Thursday morning chat room is only Thursday morning if you are from Dave's neck of the woods, I think. Perhaps we need a Chat Room for the geographically challenged or a Chat Room for dummies. I love chatting, but there are just too many people talking over each other for me. I think it would be better if one entered the chat room when it first opens, but the Tuesday chat room opens early in the day, and the Thursday chat room opens in the middle of the night.
I know that Phil's evenings are my mornings, and vise versa, so that much difference in time actually works for me. I wonder how many others would like to chat but are unable to manage the time differences?
I was thinking of you when the chat was on this (my) lunchtime Weez. Thought you would be busy zuzzing. Evert and i both tried it, but we were unlucky - noone else was there when we were, and we weren't there at the same time LOL.
I just can't stay up til 3am these days, and I'm not very clever at 6am, if I'm awake at all. Maybe we'll arrange it some day and I'll set the alarm!
Oh, Evert, I miss chatting with you on Tuesdays! We have been having such fun playing with WM's head in his (half) sleep! LOL
I love your imitation above, WM: very accurate! And that night, you were more than half drunk! Come on, admit it! It was a lot of fun for us all.
Very often there aren't a lot of different conversations at once; usually someone gets a good (interesting to all) topic going, and we all comment on that. It is easier to keep up like that. Usually it involves teasing Badseed; she deserves it (just teasing) but can give it out as well as take it. And she is teaching the rest of us to do the same.
So don't be intimated; just peek in from time to time, and sooner or later you will want to also get involved. Don't worry about your typing speed or accuracy; you can always "backspace" out of a wrong entry before you hit As you can tell, a lot of us are kind of punch-drunk (or Scotch-whiskey drunk, eh WM -- gotcha) when we are on, so we aren't too sure what we are doing, either ;D Just goofing off with our friends. There are some serious discussions that happen from time to time, but mostly those are very short, and usually one person will say "e-mail me about it later". That is the only possible way for me to remember if I made a commitment (like to Celia: hi, Celia, I got your e-mail and will answer it later).
:) There weren't many people in the chat today. I wish there was a evening chat for Europeans too.
And something that would fit to Weez's times ;)
Personally, I am at my top form from about 10 am til 2 pm, but of course that is when I schedule most of my other activities! I would adore chatting with Weezin, you, Wonder_down_under, and several others from all the different time zones! During your upcoming holidays, do you think you can make room to come sneak in the chat room? Maybe some of the others can also plan and we can have a great international get-together! Doesn't that sound like fun? I miss chatting with so many people! Wahh! (crying here *grin*)
That is why I wish we could have a open chat room all the time, that way if I wanted to chat with Winter or someone else I could just e/mail them and ask them to meet me in the chat room. But I think we have already talked it over with Dave and I think he was against it for some reason or another. But it's a fun thought anyways!
There are Messenger services at Hotmail and Yahoo. But then again, you couldn't put too many on the same Messenger or it would be very confusing. Just a thought.
