Arum italicum

Have loads of 'berries' on my plants this year that seed themselves around. However i'd like to be able to save some for other people. Please can someone tell me the best way of extracting the seed from the flesh in order to end up with clean seed suitable for posting?

Not sure if this will help, but I'll tell you how I do the dracunculas and they are probably similar. When the 'berry' turns red it is ready. Wear gloves as the juicy portion will discolor your hands. The drac seeds come out a beige color, several in each berry. I wipe mine if necessary with a paper towel. Hope that helps.

Thanks haighr :) I've already done mine using this method (without the gloves, but that seemed OK LOL)Your answer confirms i've done them right. I'll be sending them out soon

I was lucky and ended up discussing this on another thread somewhere - probably PDB. Anyway thanks for your reply

You are welcome, I didn't use the gloves for mine either LOL, just happened to read that somewhere after the fact LOL. Isn't that always the way.

Yes!!! I only got a little orange colour under the nails - looked quite fetching for a day or so LOL

I hate to butt in Ladies, but to anyone else reading.....

Gloves should really be worn when handling these plants as the whole plant is poisonous and can irritate skin and eyes.

Sensitive skins be warned.

Thanks Baa, guess I've been lucky as the last 3 years just ignored the glove idea, but always kept wiping hands on a towel while extracting the seed.
Didn't know the dracs were poisonous, thanks again. Do have to laugh at the "sensitive skin", why a mosquito won't even bite through the skin of this ole broad LOL!

Thanks Baa (she say sheepishly)
