What kind of food.....

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

What kind of food do you find yourself over eatting? What is your downfall when it comes to food cravings??

I would say fresh bread right out of the oven, and Shrimp cooked any way, and Chocolate!

What's your's?

Western, PA(Zone 6a)

I don't know MOLLYBEE, I think you have good taste! I have a heck of a time staying away from McDonalds. If I go once a week I am doing good. I know the food is absolutely bad for the system (fats, salt, and sugar). These ingredients are what gives their food the addictive quality.

Was visiting a cousin recently. He went out and picked 24 ears of corn for 6 of us. He went out again and picked 24 more. Nothing like lots of butter and salt, and a large pepsi to wash it down. This sounds like the movies!

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Yum!! Now you are sounding like my dh! He could eat fresh corn at every meal!! But I do agree it must have plenty of salt and bud-da LOL

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

Pasta! especially sphagetti with any of the great sauces and accompaniments like sausage, meatballs, mushrooms crabmeat(alfredo),mussels, clams, chicken and calamari...to name just a few

Bodrum, Turkey(Zone 10a)

I have to agree with kikisdad...love pasta....any way ~ plain with olive oil...parmesan cheese....red sauce, white sauce..green sauce (Pesto)
I also love hot bread with butter
that corn goldog sure sounds yummy....

I make a white sauce for tortellini, it is: sauted mushrooms and onions, then add cream warm it up, add parmesan cheese (about a cup or so...-lots is better)cook it till it melts, and the sauce is smooth ~ ~ ~ then and this is the best part.....cashews.....
then I serve it on tortellini....so delizioso.....
simply to die for.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Yummmm Pebble!! Hey can I get some for SASE? LOL You make that sound sooo good! I just might have to get the recipe from ya.

Raphine, VA(Zone 6b)

Gotta be Crab Afrafdo, Steamed Shrip, ahhh...
I could over eat on just about any food, I just love to eat, lol.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Hee Hee Raven...me too!! I love food in general! That's why I go on Seefood diets all the time...I see food I eat it! LOL

Jesteburg-Wiedenhof, Germany(Zone 8a)

Here in Hamburg I over-eat when my wife, (SWMBO), makes her gulasch, she only makes it for me, since she makes it so hot that no-one else can get a forkfull down, and we need special containers to keep it from burning through. She cooks it in chrome-steel pots cos this stuff takes the colours even off of the plates...lol
By the way, I keep my toilet paper in the freezer ;-)

When I'm in Scotland, I become the Glasgow Glutton on Scotch Pies.... those round pies, filled either with beef or mutton, somehow are attracted to my mouth by some strange force, which doesn't let me go past a bakery knowing that 'they' are in there. At a soccer game, I can knock back about 10 - 15, (the game lasts 90 minutes, with 15 minute pie buying interval). After the game, down to the pub where it's a few ales, and a lot of pies. I could put one of these babies away with every beat of the bass drum at a speed metal concert.... lol

Here's a wee example: My cousin came to Hamburg on a visit for 2 days, and brought 4 dozen pies for me. They were finished before he left.

They are normally served in Scotland with baked beans, and soft white bread with butter, forget that stuff..... it just takes belly room away from the pies.... now I've got myself goin' daft, I'll have to give my cousin a wee call, and get him to send me some pies, POSTE HASTE!!!!!

*yum*

Winter *rulps* moor

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Just how big are those pies??

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

that was my question Molly!! LOL! but Molly you took my answer! Fresh bread right out of the oven. I made some today and it was soooooooo good. My SIL would have eaten the rest of the loaf if I hadn't stopped him.

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

O YUMMMM tiG!!! I can smell it now!! The more butter the better too.
We have a Flowers Bakery about 2 miles from here and sometimes when I go outside I can actually smell it cooking! I use to also work right across the street from that same place and man o man it's enough to drive ya crazy! I can get fat just smelling of it though! LOL!!

New Iberia, LA(Zone 9a)

OH YUMMY.. My favorite hot bread or roll homeade by my Mom.. I would eat more than 2 big rolls. The second is boiling crawfish. i would never stop eating until my tummy hurt!!! and the snicker chocolate candy!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Fresh, crusty bread every time, a good cheese like Stilton and home made lemon meringue. Seafood of course and best of all, a good roast dinner with all the trimmings.

Chocolate!!! Any creamy lucious chocolate!!! My own homemade fudge with cashews or marishino cherries in it. Or Hersheys. My DS brought me a 15 pound chocolate bar when I was in the hospital this year. I LOVE my child!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shrimp or Lobster for me too, Molly. Or crab is wonderful too.
Salmon steaks cooked on the barbeque. Yummy!
Mushrooms sauted in real butter.
Home grown steak with the above mushrooms on it. Now if I could have a meal with all of the above in it I would die happy AND fat! Lani

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

O YUM Homemade fudge with cashews! A girl after my own heart! Sounds soooo good!! Now you know you need to be e/mailing me the how to's so I can make it here!

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh, man! I agree with almost everything that's already been listed. My fave things that I can REALLY make myself sick on are:
ANY kind of seafood, but especially clams, crab, catfish and MUDBUGS!
cheesecake
moist fresh chocolate brownies with walnuts
strawberries with fresh cream
zuchini cooked in a cast iron skillet with fried bacon
boiled cabbage and sausage
menudo
fresh bread ~ I haven't made any in a long time, maybe I will soon ;)
fresh corn on the cob w/bacon wrapped around it & cooked on the BBQ pit
alfredo anything
sauteed mushrooms
homemade corn chips and homemade hot sauce (salsa to y'all)

I'm having some of those chips and hot sauce right now as a matter of fact. I've learned to not buy the big bags of chips ~ that way, I have to make the chips and I'll only make a few. Otherwise, I'd be as full as a tick! LOL!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

wingnut, I just made chips myself!!!! and I made a big batch of your 'salsa' the other night. yummmm

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

OK Wingnut What is a MUDBUG??????

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Isn't that awesome stuff, tiG?! IF I do say so myself. ;) I get on a kick sometimes for a week where I'll eat one batch in two days ~ putting it on EVERYTHING except pancakes! LOL!

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

I was thinking the same thing!! What in the world is a Mudbug??

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Whoops, Kikisdad, I missed your post! It's a wonderful, yummy, terrifically tasty CRAWDAD! Otherwise known as crayfish. Yum!

Spring Hill, FL(Zone 9a)

AHA! I may have to try them sometime when I'm in cajun country again. The crayfish in the North Eastern U.S. are suitable only for fish bait although they resemble tiny lobsters.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

hey wing, will you post your way of frying chips? I'm getting them too crisp sometimes and wonder if you have the secret!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

oh oh, and how long does the salsa keep in the fridge???

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Yep sounds like I need to try these!! I'll be looking for the post...put me a link in here once you post it, so I wont miss it! These do sound yummy, and I am up to try anything once!

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

hmmmm...I know what everything is except menudo...
"corn on the cob w/bacon wrapped around it"? Sure got me to thinking EATS! Sounds great!

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

Is your grease hot enough, tiG? I just cut thin corn tortillas in quarters and fry them in the same temp grease as french fries. They DO have to be well done or they'll be tough. Ick! When putting them in the grease, I drop them one by one so they don't stick together ~ if they stick to each other, the middles won't get done. I shake the basket a few times during cooking, too ~ you can stir them instead of shaking. That distributes them so they'll cook all the way. Otherwise they'll be real crispy on the edges and still almost tough/not done in the middle. Maybe that will help? They don't necessarily need to be turning brown, but just about.

The hot sauce, well, I don't know how long it'll last in the fridge 'cause it always gets eaten after four days max around here. LOL! I think if you put a tablespoon or two of vinegar per quart it'll make it last lots longer. I sometimes add a dribble of the juice from the jalapenos if I use pickled instead of canned ones.

Kikisdad, the ones down here aren't all that big, but they're big enough for eating. If we're going to have a feast, we'll go to the Fiesta grocery store in Austin and get a couple tow sacks of live ones just in from Louisiana. We did that a few months ago ~ 66lbs. Invited all our friends over! Lotta' fun!!

Man! All this talk of hot sauce and mudbugs makes me think I need to take those boiled ones out of the freezer, de-tail them and make gumbo!

I was thinking my grease was too hot!!! I cook french fries on HIGH!! on a gas stove. I sure love them though! This will just have to be an excuse for more practice, right?? LOL!

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

BTW, Mollybee, here's the hot sauce recipe in case you wanna' try it: http://davesgarden.com/t/176596/ I mostly use white onions instead of yellow ~it gives it more "bite" ~ but yellow will do nicely. YUM-YUM!!

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Thanks!! I am fixing to print it so that I can start collecting the stuff to make it with!! Sounds Yummy!!!

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

LOL, tiG! Practice DOES make perfect. ;) I missed your post like I missed Kikisdad's last time! Grrr... I MUST remember ~ "type, select all, copy, refresh, paste", THEN post! *Grin!*

Yeah, Molly! Do! It's good stuff. Play with it for a while before you give up on it. I like white onions and garlic, so use a whole LARGE white onion and four heaping tablespoons of chopped garlic, the kind you get in the jar. This summer, I even used fresh tomatoes in place of the canned ones ~ yummy!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

it's even better after a few days!!!!

Villa Rica, GA(Zone 7a)

Now that my keyboard is all wet from slobber....I think I will go get the Q-tips and dry it off LOL This does sound Yummy!!! I told DH and he says what are you waiting for....go get the stuff to make it with!!! LOL
