So Lucky to have found this forum!

Cortlandt Manor, NY(Zone 6a)

Yikes - - and I thought I was doing a lot of work in my yard :S. I grew up in neighboring Wisconsin. My Dad's farm (which he still runs) is right across the IA border near Prairie du Chein -- going there with my DH, DD and DS this Saturday to visit my family for TG. I live in NY now and really do miss the country life and the rolling hills of corn.

So nice for you that you live on a lake!

Happy Gardening!
Welcome - - I am a newbie too.

Alys,
Yes, we were going to build a new house; but now as I
see how much work this is. I am going to stay here. We like the lake but not the house. So we will do a courtyard to our desires.
The lake is beautiful but no one does much in the way of landscaping.
I am going to go into my personal page and use the journal to document things as they change.
Digital camera sure helps.
Don't you just love gardening?

TLC, nice to meet another Iowan also. Saw your post on my thread and then saw this one in the landscaping forum; getting two birds with one stone. My what a lot of work, the results are incredible. Can't wait to see the plantings. I did some yard remodeling this last summer and if I can find some pics AND learn how to upload them, I'll show what we did. Nothing on the scale of yours but I'm pleased so far. Still have a long way to go though. I was very thankful to read tiG's post to this thread, I was having an awful time finding the threads again. Everyone really seems to want to help each other, that is so nice!

Lillyfam,
What City are you near; I am 20 miles from Fort Dodge;
Have talked to others from Iowa who want to do a get together when the weather is warmer again.

It took me a while to see all this website has to offer and so far I have been very pleased with it.

Nice folks here!

How were your cabbagerolls Arlene?Root.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

They were great rootdoctor; we are re-heating them tonight.
Did you get back from your trip? I just put more money in the mail today for the extra postage on the double purple datura. Also sent you an email as to how I made the cabbage rolls.

TLC, I live about 21 miles from Chariton, and about 20 miles from the Missouri stateline. Not too far from Brugie, who is from Chariton. I haven't 'met' too many people as I've only been here about a week and I'm not sure of myself yet. I'm pretty new to computers also so I'm still learning all the bells and whistles! A meeting among Iowan DGers would be great.

YIPEE! Another DG Round UP!! Ya'll will enjoy it so much. We really would like pictures...we have a Round Up Forum to make your plans...and a Round Up Photos Forum to post your pictures!! GO FOR IT! Jo

Aotearoa, Cook and teach "cooking" almost anything that will hold still! Enjoy teaching people how easy it is to do something a bit extra special. Did take pastry classes with Jacques Torres but stay away from sweets as I am diabetic. People here in the Heartland are pretty good cooks; they just need a little nudge to get out there and do some different things. Am very interested in food history and food trends.

llilyfan,
Before joining, wandered across the plant data base which is free to non-subscribers. It helped so much in the Master Gardener Course. Saved me a lot of time. (My normal work day starts about 5 AM and can go til 8 or 9 PM.)

What a shock!. . . .In the 8 weeks of my membership- - my day now starts with checking the site. The prospect of an Iowa Round-up (seems that is where you physically meet at a given location and actually see each other) - - - MOST EXCITING.
JUst think, never having seen or met each other and when we meet, already having something so passionate in common.

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

Oh, RR!
Love our new digital camera; no problem with pictures.Am so new - don't really know what you are supposed to do at a "Round-Up". Kinda sounds like a Texas thing ( get lasso out; throw over heads of calves, knock down on ground . . .trouble . . . wouldn't know what to do next!). Maybe someone will coach us on how to do this.
Regards,
arlene

Well, I finally figured out where you were. Count me in for an Iowa Roundup and welcome to DG. You'll have to be sure to come to my plant swap next spring too. Hope to chat with you soon and congratulations on becoming an MG. Have you been to the new butterfly gardens at Reiman yet? Maybe we can get together there sometime.

Twin, I have seen you in the garden and now Welcome. What time is dinner?

Any Yons, Gads, I have vacationed in Bandon and eaten your chesse. Welcome from Vancouver, WA. We will be down in your area next month. Gardening on the coast can be challenging?

OC, CA & Twin Lakes , IA(Zone 4b)

anastatia,
Dinner at 8

Ahi Tuna, marinated and seared napped with a Buerre Blanc Sauce and Sweet Soy Sauce

Fresh sliced Georgia peaches for dessert drizzled with peach Schnaps and a chiffonade of basil

Lol . . . making myself hungry!

Lake Elsinore, CA(Zone 9a)

Twin, Welcome, you will just love it here in the garden! I am from So Cal also. Moved inland about 3 years ago.

Miss Newport, but I love the view of the lake and mountains. I can also grow more veggies and herbs here. Seems as if tomatoes grow much better as well as mellons.

What do you like better as far as growing conditions in your new digs?

Ditto the dinner menu. Yumm... my taste buds just woke up, humm, maybe I should make something else for dinner. LOL

Jul,
Never gardened in Ca; just picked it out and told the gardener where to plant it. This is my first real garden.
What do I like best. Tropicals and they do well in the warm humid summers here.

Lake Elsinore, CA(Zone 9a)

Tropicals are a favorite of mine. My DH is from the islands and we have many tropicals in our yard, but not so many as on the coast.

I think you will enjoy gardening. It is hard work, but very satisfying, especially if you grow for your kitchen.

Enjoy, and glad to have you on Daves.
