100 years - Some good news

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

With good news taking such a back seat to the bad in our media, I found this little slice-of-life story from our local radio station to be something happy to read:

The patriarch of the Flowers clan of Hanover is turning 100-years of age. Family members say Lloyd Flowers will become a centenarian on October 1st, and while he is in a local nursing home and uses a wheelchair - he is still going strong. This Sunday afternoon from 3:00pm till 6:00pm a reception will be held at the Events Center in Hanover, and family and friends are invited. Flowers was born in 1902, at a time when the Wright Brothers were experimenting with powered flight, and Teddy Roosevelt carried his big stick in the White House. Flowers built a community pool and founded the Licking Valley Swim Club. He worked at Pharis Tire in Newark, and farmed, operated a sawmill, drove school bus and served as a village councilman.

Flowers had 16 children and all are still living. (emphasis added)

There's a lot of Flowers in our county! ;)

This Flower sounds like quite a man! I hope all 16 for those children manage to be there for the celebration and they bring all their children and grandchildren. That way the Flowers will make up an entire garden of blooms!

Good story. It's nice to have some good news. Mr. Flowers sure saw amazing changes to our world in his lifetime.
