Tiny Morning Glory

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

I found these vines out walking Saturday. Are they common or no? They sure were pretty growing along this one area!

That so pretty, I got mine too all over has white, this one picture and other light pink too.

Is that Convolvulus rather than Ipomea? Looks like bindweed. They're a problem in the cotton fields here.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

LOL judyb! Probably a problem here too, just one I'd not seen before! There is a bigger flowered 'version' growing all over the fields. I thought this was pretty.

Paxton, FL(Zone 8a)

Is that as much as the bloom opens? There is one all over here that is colored like that but opens up more. It is a small, but not tiny, bloom.

Lutz, FL(Zone 9b)

Hi Gingerlily! That is the fully open flower. The leaves are the same size as regular MG leaves if that helps give you an idea of size. I put a small piece of this vine in water Sunday and it's starting to bloom. Vigorous little thing isn't it? I'll get a picture with something to show it's size if this flower does bloom.

Pretty, does it form seeds? We have a white form, not near as pretty. If it forms seeds you should collect some, I'm sure others wil be as interested as I am... just remind people tht it is a bindweed so don't let it "escape".... I have few things like that, like the False Strawberry, I have to keep a very good eye on it since I'm pretty sure it's not native here.

Ipomoea triloba... not sure about common-ness

Jackson, SC(Zone 8a)

its hard to find as they are so small and delicate. i tried to transplant one from the wild and died with in a few hours.

definaltly seeds but the seeds are small so have to look for them.

Thanks zemerson...We have several similar Ipomoea blooming along our roadsides each fall. This one, I turbinata, which also has small blooms and the larger I cordatotriloba. I think I've finally got them figured out! LOL

Niceville, FL(Zone 8b)

I was gonna say triloba. Grows wild here. I fight it in my back yard constantly. I think it is found in Florida, California, New Mexico, and Arizona.

Charleston, SC(Zone 9a)

Be vary careful with that one. I have it growing wild in my garden. In late summer/early fall it drapes itself over and covers everything within 10'. Butterflies and hummers are drawn to it, but it reseeds all over my garden beds and suffocates other plants.Hard to irradicate.
