Need help rooting cuttings of Sky Vine??? So far I have not been able to root any, they wilt & die.

Honibee - don't know what the secret is - I have a few that have rooted. I just put them in a mixture if sand, peat & perlite, added a few water absorbing crystals, and they Survived!! Keep them damp. I didn't even use rooting hormone.

Azalea,

I do mine the same way??? Guess
I'll just keep trying.

Thanks,

I get about every third one to root. I have no idea why I just keep trying.

they will root from the big leaves. cut one off with the piece of leaf stem and keep moist in bright light. takes a while, but works.

Tip cuttings, about 6 inches long. You can tell the thicker ones, they root best, especially the straight, thick ones that grow straight up. I dip in Schultz root starter and stick in vermimulite or sand.

Thank you tiG for setting us straight.

weeds, be sure and read Cala's post above. but I have done it with leaves, am thinking I might have dipped them in rootone, probably.

Thanks everyone. I am going
to try all of your suggestions
today. First year this vine has bloomed for me & I fallen in love with the Blue Blooms!!

Now if only my Mexican Flame vine would bloom. It roots like
a weed.

how do you take cuttings of it?? I want to keep mine without having to dig the whole plant.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

TiG, Mexican Flame vine is easy, any part will root. If you look along the stems, you may find a piece that's already put out roots in the air.
Mexican Flame Vine likes to be starved, don't over fertilize or you won't get any flowers.

I'm having trouble figuring out where to cut on my Sky vine. The top leader is spindly & I don't think it would work. The side branches all have clusters of flower buds. I guess I'm just gonna have to cut the flowers off to get some decent cutting material.

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Thanks everyone. I will keep
trying till I get one rooted.
What about seeds?? This is the
first year my Sky vine has bloomed, are the seed easy to see??

Mexican Flame vine does root
well, almost like a weed! My
Mex. Flame has vined like crazy,
but no blooms. Anybody know why??

Thanks,

Poppy, don't cut the sky vine if it's blooming, the ones with blooms/buds are hard to root.
Honeybee, don't give the flame vine too much nitrogen.

HoneyBee,
I have never seen seeds on my sky vine. Cala do they seed?

Saucier, MS(Zone 8b)

Thanks Glory.

I have been waiting & watching & have not seen anything that looks like a seed or pod. Surely if I take 20 cuttings, one should root. Just want a back-up for next year.
