Tell me again - when is the close off date??

I think we need a 'Most worthy of a book cover' category. And a fun category like 'least likely to survive'(I can submit there), an 'I REALLY want to bloom'. I think there should be serious and fun categories.
oh, that's good!!! let's go for 7 categories?? we need to keep it under 10 probably, but I like fun things too!
I think this group has become known here for it's very serious lack of seriousness. So I think we need to reflect that.
While at the same time we take our addiction very seriously - we need to reflect that too.
okay, the lines are open guys and gals, let's get these categories nailed down. Might be a picture or two taken specifically for whatever (I'm hoping:)
Last year there were three prizes given. I don't remember exactly what they were. I got one for the Versi. orange, whole plant, one for the Suess with plantings around it, and Snow got one for Datura. Dave could probably tell us what the categories were last year for sure. I like the idea of most bloom. Also like the "looking up" shots. There are a lot of ways to go on this, and I hope Dave can let us know his thoughts.
there weren't any categories last year. The only prize this year are blue ribbons (note to self, get to the store) and the honor. And Dave let the other forums come up with their own categories, so I'm assuming here that we can do the same thing. I did write and ask for a closing date.
tiG, are we supposed to be getting the prizes? If you would, and can find ribbons, could you get them all and I'll share the expense. I wouldn't know where to go to get any around here. This is the Boonies you know.
I don't want to put any expense on dave. I think this is all the other contests are taking care of things on their own too (I hope) I can get them at the party store.
Let me know. Maybe we could find something online if you can't find them there.
I've seen them before, so that shouldn't be a problem and we have 3 office supply stores in town too.

LADIES!!! i'd like to volunteer to replace one of you in the contest. don't think i'll be submitting any pics.
Brugie, sigh, your pics are so gorgeous. my brugs are so far behind yours. even the faithful doc, 6 feet in may, has only started growing again recently and until the last week or so only had 5 blooms total all year!!!!! kept pulling salvias from near it, cut some stalks off it, and loaded it with fertilizer til i thought i would kill it. i only hope hard frost will stay off in time for me to get some blooms. the ones i used the end of last year's osmocote on early have done pretty well, some seedlings that have bloomed, butterfly and pink beauty. i just now have tiny buds on whiskers. i should definitely be sent to brug jail, i certainly knew better. used 50 pounds of osmocote in just a few days in i think june? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! my head is hung in shame, and i am in deep deep despair.

The only blooms I have had is on a V. Peach(3 yrs. old) All summer I have fought spidermites,flea beetles, fertilized..... wasted???
As usual, in September, not before, the buds are coming fast, should have some open in day or two.

Good idea Liz. Arlene, I won last year and I don't want to put the pictures of my holey brugs in the contest anyway. Let someone else have the fun this year. Maybe tiG would like to switch places with you, but if Dave would let us wait a while for the contest to end, wouldn't you have some good pictures?
I think ,because soooo many of us only have a bloom or two at a time,there should be a single bloom catagory.The best looking single bloom.It can be from a plant that has 600 blooms but just one classy shot of a single bloom on it!

Glory, glad to hear i'm not alone, maybe we'll both have big flushes in a few weeks. i did have blooms til almost christmas last year.
tig, i will still be a judge if you like, or replace someone else if they like, cannot remember who the other judges are.
well, all of mine are fixing to bust out, but arlene, I think you've already taken some wonderful shots. just because they've been in the forums doesn't mean that they can't go in the contest too.
Heck Arlene, I think I had posted all of mine on the forum before entering the contest. Stick them over in the contest area. We will love them and for me, I probably won't remember them from the first time anyway. :-)
You have lots of time yet, Arlene, couple weeks can make a world of difference. Keep your camera ready!

arlene, the judges are Hibiscus, Brugie, dave and me. I'll just stay in if that's okay. You make much better pictures than me.
remember, someone cannot win unless they put the picture in the contest. That doesn't include just posting in the forum.

it honestly won't cost that much. I'm going to town Friday night or Saturday morning and look at what they have. need input on those categories I listed. I ain't in charge, we all are!

Gosh, do we need the ugliest too like they did in the MG contest? :-) Just kidding. I like the ones you have. We could add forever and just make our job harder. It is going to be pretty hard the way it is. I think most brugs would fit into at least one of the catagories and probably most. OMG......you should have just heard this old computer. Sounded like a plane getting ready to take off. I though it was going to crash for sure.
We need to stress that unless designated brug or datura, the remaining categories can be for either.

Tig what about if you can't find the ribbons you come up with A Certificate of Dave's Garden for "X" category to MR/MRS Whatever and then you can get them signed by Dave. Now that I think of that may be a problem too sending it to Dave and then back to the winners. Well anyways I can't wait to see those preaty pictures.
