best time to dig?

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

i hear u Kelley. speaking of getting tired... check this one ... http://davesgarden.com/s/352523.html

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

NIght Miss Lizzy!

So does this stuff work Ma Vie, maybe I should soak in it.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

yes they do. u do not soak in them. just apply some on ur hand and massage into area that need to be relieved.

btw... i sent u snail mail today. pls. let me know once u rcvd okay?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

my whole body needs to be relieved Ma Vie. Sad but true........LOL. So does a masseuse come with it?? If so I will bye alot..............

have you tried it yourself?

this week I am suddenly getting all sorts of things, I sure hope I live to get them all.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

not here in the US. in the Phil. we use it a lot. that is one thing i missed here, a personal masseuse. in the Phil., one comes to the house twice a week. if u find a good one in ur area, u should get a masseuse, make a lot of difference, makes one look younger too and most important, make u feel good thru and thru.

in the Phil. there are many kinds of herbal remedy, mostly done in massage manner. we hardly take any medication. all natural form. may sound backward to the western civilization but it works.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

backwards? no sounds like sheer heaven!! I would love the Philippines, I would eat mangoes there (I hear they are much better than here) and have a masseuse come to my house every day!!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Mangoes in the Phils. is like eating honey. my sister in law owns a vacation resort, where the water is warm and there is a blue lagoon, sand is pure white. local residents in the area, always pamper visitors by bringing fresh picked fruits every other morning. the fisherman would wake u up at 5 in the morning by bringing u their fresh catch for the day. everyone takes turn in cooking and serving u. i know, whenever i visit, it is so difficult to leave! u can always request for a masseuse, a hair dresser, a manicurist and pedicurist at ur beck and call. i miss the Phils. for all these services for hardly no money at all specially when u spend US $$$.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

but now you have to worry about those radical muslims coming for you and taking you hostage. Too bad!!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

no, no! that is far south in Mindanao, the 3rd big island. i am referring to Batangas City, in Luzon the 1st and main area of the Phils.

Mindanao is filled with moslem, that is where they are concentrated in population. not in Luzon where Manila - the capital is located.

the only time, i was in Mindanao is riding a helicopter. i wasn't too confident to stay inland. no one is recommended to go there. most of the people are ignorant and backward.

in Luzon, u will find lots of tourist spots.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

oh good! And they never can get to another island? They are scary!!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

no, it takes them months to travel by boat to go to the main island. plane fares isn't affordable for them. thank goodness Lol!!

i used to go to the PHils. only to go shopping and the personal beauty treatments. been a long time i haven't been back. last trip was in 98. never been back since then.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I would love to go!

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

sorry i can't afford to go. u can though. best time to go there is during the Winter mos. where it is cooler. otherwise it is very hot and humid.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

good night Kell. been a long day. have a good one :)!

Newberry, FL(Zone 8B)

ms kell, i have not used frost cloth, i talked to 2 people who used it here. one is the manager of a shop, she covered her greenhouse with it and stuff survived 26F, was under freezing for something like 14 hours. she says you need enough to anchor the cloth on the ground with blocks or something. the other person wrapped around certain plants. trying to find it cheaper, 12 or 15 feet wide, and i think she said 1.50 a foot, sold like fabric. i also read where someone does this when it is going to frost: puts the pots on their sides and cover with blankets!

brugs can take more frost than you think, quite a few of my 2 inch seedlings survived those 2 hard frost nights, and brugs aren't damaged by a minimal frost, where it just hits freezing for a couple of hours and then warms. at least not here!!!

ms kell, i have had way too much to do. those islands sound wonderful.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks Miss Arlene! So did you say you are trying to find it cheaper? Where was it $1.50/ft?? The cheaper the better!! Last year one of my brugs died to the ground. Though now htat I think about it, I do not think that happened before. But I also have tons of tropicals that I always let die before. This year I am going to bring them thru!!! Brugie has me looking at greenhouses...............my husband is safe though......no room. She also sent me a make your own, that can be taken down. If I just have a little plastic house over the tropicals, is that enough do you think to keep them thru the night here? the tropicals?

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Kell, I don't have a real GH. I had a carpenter last year build me temporary 2x4 frames that he wrapped in heavy plastic. They were screwed to the undersides of a big deck. In the spring they are unscrewed and stored away. I had an electrician hardwire me some big lights. Everything went in there.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Miss Lizzy, can you loan me your carpenter, electrician and oh BTW some of your deck? LOL I really do not want to do any lights......... do you think I have to Liz? Did you do them for light or for warmth? I will have enough light, it is warmth I am worried about.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

kell, you're in a 9b!!! if by any chance one was to die back, it's gonna come back!!! the only ones you need to watch out for are the ones that aren't in the ground, bring them in for the night.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

Kell, i am in zone 8a, the lowest temp, i've experience here last year was 8 deg. F. a friend in NC sent me my 1st pink brug. i left it outside thru the winter, it died but when the weather got warmer, it came back to life. it is in buds right now. the label just says pink brug. soon as the buds open, will i know what the name is. if not mistaken, ur area is far 'warmer' than where i am?

i will be doing some 'experiment' this coming winter. i will take cuttings off the ones growing on the ground, leave the mother plant as they were, and see what result i will get. if one did dieback, am pretty sure the rest would. i have to do the best i can since i cannot afford to get a green house myself. too expensive for my meager budget :(.

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Kell, just don't put plastic directly on plants. It conducts the cold and they will freeze where they touch.

Don't you have a fence that you could attach the plastic to and just drap it over the potted plants? Would work if you could hold it up off of them.

High Desert, CA(Zone 8a)

hey Kell, got an idea for u based on what Shirley suggested. make teepee with bamboo stick or 2x2 pieces of wood. for 6' 2x2 will cost u, $1.25 @ Home Depot LOL! i think that is what i will do on this end. hopefully that will avoid dieback. we will see, time will only tell based on experiment i intend to do.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Thanks all for brainstorming with me. I am not worried aobu the ones I have in the ground, I am worried about the 30 I have in pots and the many tropicals I have in pots!! Did I not mention my house is small to fit my garden size?? LOL!! I already am thinking about filling Tom's room with plants............LOL and at Christmas....OH well Kid YOU HAVE been replaced!!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Kell, you've got 30 Frosty Pinks in pots?????

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

You are so quick Snow, I love it!! Sad but true, no one will send me any good brugs so I keep propagating the ones I have..........I can't even buy any good ones..... LOL

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

now kell, I bet your name is first on all our lists for cuttings. but then whatcha gonna do with them??????????????

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

rename them and send them to YOU!! LOL

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

Oh poor baby. Wish you lived closer. You could come dig up some of these 10 ft monsters and plant them in your yard.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

kell, I'll get you my pretty!!! look, how cold does it really get there? for how long? I had 2 brugs overwinter in pots here, and I didn't even mulch them or anything. don't know what all tropicals you have. do you have a tent?? a pup tent?? something you can put up and take down?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

I probably am being silly. It can get to 30 at night, but just a few nights I think.......... I am paranoid since listening to all of you!!

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

listen to arlene, she throws sheets over, or I think I remember her doing that last year. never fear and if you lose them, we'll all have more in the spring. which for you would be the next day LOL!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Snow, my husband grew up in NH!

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

What town kell?

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

He was born in Laconia, then moved to Berlin, then Manchester...............to Mass then back to Concord! His dad lived in Exeter and Amherst when Tom was an adult!
