banana trees for daves garden party people

Brewers, KY(Zone 6b)

if anyone attending daves party in august and would like some banana trees, please let me know. I will pot you up some this week and bring them in august. I don't know what variety they are but they grow up to 15-20 feet here and produce bananas. I cant mail any out in trades because of the cost, but if you would like some i can bring them in august.

Erin, I don't really want/need anything...unless you would have President or Bengal canna...that is the only thing! But I would love to bring some 'nana trees for the folks attending. Lisa

Lisa,

I live in zone 5. Can I keep mine in a container and bring it inside in the winter? If so the I would love one.

Are they hardy to zone 7? I'd love one, and am wondering if it's do-able here.

Glad to pass some along...i don't really know how bananas do inside..never been faced with that challenge :)! But, hey they are free...so what do you have to lose? I will bring them anyway!!! Lisa

My banana trees do just fine in the g-house in the winter. I only heat it to 50*...it keeps them alive but slows their growth. (Also mine,I believe, are the Cavendish (dwarf) varieties). A guy in the next town grows some type of banana plants outside every yr that get huge, but do not bear fruit in our area due to the short growing season. It sure makes a great "hedge" tho. He mulches them heavily with leaves each fall, the tops die down but jump back up every spring. Welp, that's my 2 cents worth...sorry to interrupt..you see, when the Creator was passing out manners I thought they said "nanners" and ate all mine. ;>)
