iris on e-bay

Lake Toxaway, NC(Zone 7a)

Somewhere at DG I saw someone laughing about the high cost of iris on e-bay, $6 or 7 dollars or more when many can be bought much cheaper from a retailer or on-line catalogs. Well, I wanted to check that out and found that those prices were for either 3 or 5 bulbs, not one. I have in 3 bids now. Please don't outbid me, lol, I am bidding under the name of rakutrader.

woodspirit,

There can be some deals come through on ebay. I saw someone starting out at .01 on daylilies I think it was with $5 s&h. Now that, even as the price moves up is way more than fair. They are making sure they have their shipping covered and a little more and then letting the public decide how much more they are worth. I am thinking of doing that myself soon. I have some things in the garden that can use dividing and I would like to have a little fun more than anything and maybe pay for a few more bulbs I just bought on clearance. I also bought a large amount of gorgeous poppy seeds for $10. I know that is probably high when I could get them for postage or trade here but I felt it worth it because of the size and colors and it contains about 20,000 seeds with a high germination rate so I will never want for those poppy seeds agian and can share with others all the new seeds they will produce.

Have fun and just watch the s&h so you know what you are really paying on the auctions.

Well, I need to amend my first statement. If you search in e-bay under iris bulbs, you will find the multiple bulbs at a good price. But if you search under just iris bulb, no plural, then they are pricey. I have also found that a few people list under iris rhizomes, and most people don't look there, so there are some bargains to be found there.
Angel, my husband sold a lot of wheel-thrown raku pottery on e-bay and I would make a suggestion. Don't sell anything for under $10, it's just not worth the trouble. You have to e-mail back and forth, get the postage right, go mail it off and hope you get paid. In fact, never, ever mail anything off without receiving a money order or using paypal. If you get a personal check, give it 10 days to clear before ship anything.
You may have to group some things together to get your price up to $10, but you will be glad you did. Check out the terms on seasoned sellers at e-bay and you will see they have pretty strict rules about payment. They have learned the hard way.

Thanks for the tip. I suppose it would be nice to sell a bunch of one or more plants together anyway rather than just 3 or 4. I sent out about 12 plants for priority shipping under $4 so I know you can really stuff a box with live plants.
