I recently ran across a pre-order offer for W.T. Stearn's Dictionary of Plant Names for Gardeners which is due out in a couple months. (I'm guessing this is a revision of his '72 book by the same name?)
For the record, this is different from his 1966 Botanical Latin, which is (as PoppySue warned me) VERY difficult for the average gardener to follow - I checked it out from the library, and spent two weeks trying to figure out how to best use it; finally gave up and returned it :(
Now here's my dilemma...the new book is being advertised for $13, in softcover. The '72 book can be had for as little as a few bucks from online auctions and used book sellers... Does anyone have the '72 book, and/or any inkling how different the new one will be? (Wondering whether to get a decent copy of the older version, or wait for the new one :)
Stearn's new (?) book due out November
Well, as luck would have it, I guess I answered my own question, at least in part. I bid and won a like-new copy of the 1972 hardback book today, for a whopping $4.75. I suppose I'll find myself at the bookstore after Thanksgiving, trying to decide whether there's enough new/different stuff in the new book to ask 'Santa' for it, too :)
