WFFs just emailed me and said that part of my order has been shipped, so I'm probably going to get it in a couple of days. I'll be on my way to my WWF gig in Lincoln, NE on Wednesday night!!! What do I do???? I won't be back til Saturday, and I don't even know what part of the order is coming...I ordered daylilies, oriental lilies, daffodils, columbines, all kinds of shrubs,...I can't remember. So far the first order was just two of the reblooming irises, but what if they sent one of those 150 bulb mixes or something and I'm on the road???? What does Peter do with it until I get back??? I haven't even finished building the beds for them!!! HELP!!!!

Help!!!
The bulbs, nothing's gonna hurt them if left in a cool dry place. Are the shrubs in pots, or Bare root?? Do you have a neigbor who could watch for them, and take care of them until you get back?? Wish you were closer, I'd take care of them for you...........*grin*........snip, snip.
"eyes"
hahaha..."eyes", you're too funny!!! I have a mom, kids, and a husband that'll be home, whether they'll care for them or not...that's a big question!!! My neighbors? you mean bif and buffy??? hehehe...not an option. as far as what they are, i don't know. it was one of those 'got a little carried away orders'. they just said your shipment has been sent. the last time they said that, they only sent me 2 iris bulbs (sugar blues and immortality), so I have about $480.00 worth of stuff I don't remember left to come. mostly bulbs, i think. cool, dry place...the gameroom? garage will be too hot, right? I'm looking up what I remember...mostly pot grown shrubs, like white forsythia, orange mock, some others...they'll be okay in the shade, right? well, assuming someone waters them? oh, dear...the lillies and ladies says something about bareroot...what do i do with that?
lol "eyes" I know you would do a good job too...hahaha. Let me know when to send the SASE for the canna seeds. Mine aren't ready yet...still have a ways to go, but the daughters around the mother are now flowering.
what's sase?
SASE= self addressed stamped envelope.
ah, heck, joydie...i have a roll of stamps and can handle the 34 cents, i think!!! oh, no! i just thought of something...was i supposed to put more postage since you're in canada? i'd better go put a note at my mailslot for the mailman with some extra stamps since i already put it in the drop slot???
Meiyu...yup...better run to the mailbox and catch the postman...lol...don't worry if it comes through I'll just cover the extra..np. and thanks my lil sistah.
On it's way Joydie!! Bare root......meaning it's dormant, and ain't gonna do a thang until you plant it and water it!
"eyes"
whew!! that means the bareroots will be fine till i get home at least?? that's great!!! by the way, "eyes", i've been thinking about my roadsnip...i mean, roadtrip, and are you on my way to lincoln, nebraska from san antonio, texas??? hehehe...got dogs out back?
What way ya going???
"eyes"
Meiyu, I was too late getting here, but looks like you solved the problem. There will be instructions in the box(WFF is very good) telling how to take care of the plants and what to do with them.
"eyes"...your garden's way, if I can...hahaha!! actually, my ex tells me we go up to 35west, but i think he's been drinking, cuz doesn't it go north and south???
cala...the construction manager of my building company, Jim, who's SUPPOSED TO join DGs soon, is gonna take care of everything for me! I talked to him today, and he told me to have Peter call him when the package gets in...whew!! My kids would just put the box by the front door til I got home!!! Thank you, though...appreciate your input!!!
35W is the fort worth 35 and 35E is the dallas 35. 35W runs from san antonio i think all the way to OK.
glad you have the plant thing taken care of.
Bare root? Oh "eyes" do I save it in a cool dark place in a brown paper bag? Or can I plant them right away and grow over the winter...what to do? Actually, lol what's best..that's easier...I'm afraid I'll put it away in a "safe place" and completely forget about it.
LOL, joydie!!! Plant your bare roots now, and keep them inside or in a greenhouse over winter. There's no such place as a "safe place"!! I've put things away in a safe place for years, and I still can't find my physcodelic sunglasses!! Meiyu....35N comes thru Sherman ya can't miss it......looks like the Ex hadn't been hitting it that hard...ha!!
"eyes"
"eyes"
Oh yeah Eyes one day I found my bell bottom pants and gave them to my daughter. They were back in style by then...lol. now if I could only find my bank card that I just replaced the other day because I misplaced it I'd be fine.
Oh I should mention they were the hipster type bell bottoms and do you see they are back in style. I laughed when I saw platform shoes were back in style. Gurl you should have seen me back in the day....lol.

farmgirl21, i still don't get it though, doesn't 35e and 35w go back into 35n? bill said i take 35w all the way to lincoln. well, he should be awake and sober in a few hours, i'll just ask him again.
"eyes"...whatdaya mean, sherman? you live in sherman? isn't that around waco or temple or something? you forgot to tell me if you have any vicious animals anywhere...can you leave your flashlight and sharpeners out front?? we're leaving san antonio about midnight tonight.
oh, joydie, you just don't know how i wish i'd been a pac-rat all these years!!! i went to japan when i was 16 and the shoes were so cheap at that time ($3-5 per pair), that i bought 4-6 inch platforms in a dozen different colors. the girls would die for them right now!! i hear levi cordouroys are coming back too. i want the boys to go back to wearing those hot little button-fly levis again! remember how good their butts looked in them??? darn baggy pants...its just not any fun for dirty old ladies like me!!
I was a stylin' back then too, joydie and goils!! Better find that bank card...a goil can't live without that!! Meiyu, Sherman/Denison, and Gainesville all but border the Oklahoma State Border. I'm halfway between them, and 19 miles to the State Border, as the crow flies!! We're north of Denton!
"eyes"
Don't you just hate those darn baggie pants. My son insists on wearing them. You have no idea how many times I've threatened to pull them down around his knees in public. I hope that style never comes back in. Reminds me of them men when the bend over and you see their Crrrrrack. Just plain nasty to me...I hate it!!
Now those button down flies were da bomb!! I remember one year I went to NYC in the early 70's and a huge department store was going out of business. I bought no less than a half dozen or so pairs of platforms, different colors to match outfits that I had. Shoot if I had them now and sold them on eBay I would make a fortune...they were really kicking, green, medium blue, yellow with red, red, white, black, biege all different styles too. Some even had the ankle straps...wayyyyyyy sexy!
Rememba hot pants...lol.
Gosh I better stop reminising or my kids will start teasing me again. You should see what my girls used to do. They would put on wigs and pretend they were the Supremes...LOL...and then laugh and repeat my stories bout "back in the day"...LOL.

one thing about texas you can have the same name of a road in all different places that don't lead to the same place. here hwy6N is not anywhere near hwy6S but they are the same rd. go figure. i know 35w goes from ft worth to san anton. 35e goes dallas to houston. other than that they might connect up north somewhere.
i love the platform shoes they were great to walk in instead of those shoes with the pointed toes boy am i glad they are out of style. but the wedge shoe is the bomb(?) as long as it has the round toe i am happy to be buying shoes again.
i had a pair of orange plaid hip huggers and a stripped yellow orange top that i thought was the best in outfit my mom could not keep me out of them lol.
Hahahaha...you girls are making me laugh so hard I feel like I just did 500 sit-ups...ain't laughing the best exercise ever????
I remember my mom screaming when she'd see me put on the new jeans she'd just bought the day before, after I'd immediately taken a razor to it, dumped it into a tub of bleach, and washed it 20 times to get the razored slits to fray.
Joydie, I don't have to pull my boys pants down to his knees in public...they already fall on their own. He has no butt, and wears size 36 waist when his waist is only about a 29. He claims the pants keep him from getting "racked" if he falls when he's skating (he doesn't skate on the ground like we used to, he skates up on hand rails and anything that has a smooth edge and is at least 2 feet off the ground).
Darn it, girls, I've GOTTA get a nap in!!!! Make this computer let me leave!!!!
Meiyu -- Hmm. WWF = Worldwide Wrestling Federation -- I hear they are a very well organized enterprise, and if they are sending you bulbs and shrubs, I'm sure they'll be in good condition.
And ... if you have a gig with the WWF, I'm sure you can handle anything that comes your way, too!
Rik
hahaha...i don't think they have plant steriods, and those guys may have alot of foliage, but i hear the steroids keep their *flowers* small and the have trouble *blooming*! not to mention the trouble with *propagating* due to lack of *pollenating*...hahahaha...i tell ya, though, if i could cross with the rob van dam variety, heh-heh...hmmmm
they told me that its WWE now, as they were sued using some name that was already used by some wildlife thingy.
all i do is sell their shirts and other novelties when i go work for them. i do it for all kinds of entertainment, live bands, spurs, etc. getting too old for the road trips, though...
the good news is WFF (i'd made a mistake up there! "white flower farms") only sent me one bulb out of all that i ordered!!! i received champaigne ice, the reblooming iris that's peach and white, and it already has a baby attached!!
i put her in the ground last night, and she's very happy, even though peter didn't check the mailbox and she sat there in the dark heat for 3 days.
you're a night owl, too, eh rik? looks like you were on just after last call friday night...hehehe.
... and yet they always present themselves surrounded by those lovely blossoms. I can see how the frustration could produce all that misdirected rage!
Oh, yeah ... World Wildlife Fund, with the panda logo.
It is a sad thing when we get too old for road trips, but I am, too. That's the only thing that keeps me from digging in your garden at night (after last call).
Your iris ... could it be Champagne Elegance? That's a nice one. Can I get in line?
hahaha...oh, that was good rik!! i'm afraid i don't have a comeback!
yeah, that's the iris alright...not good with the names yet, and i'd have to run downstairs to look at the little stick...too old for that too. wanna know what other re-blooming irises i got??? iris sugar blues (can't wait! a fragrant iris...never heard of such a thing!!!!) and iris immortality (it's just white, but they said it rarely disappoints even us involuntary flowerslaughters who are trying to reform). incidentally, rik, you don't need to get in line, you're number one in line, but either send me an index card reminding me, for her file, and when it's time, i will divide it and mail you one. otherwise i'll never remember...make sure you put your addy and date you mailed so i remember the order!! you'll probably want sugar blues, too, so send two. can you go to the photos and look at a thread that says something like, after all this time? theres a vine in there i want. kell has a vine i want too, but she hasn't been able to root it yet...i offered my first-born even. i don't know what it is nor do i remember the thread's name with the pic. i have trouble remembering who i talked to last in dgs...and i wish everyone would stop confusing me with emailing me without using their dg names...hahaha...it's tooooooo much!!!
Hate to jump in here, but wanted to ask Rik if he ever got the duckfoot coleus he wanted. Meiyu, I sure hope you got the bulbs planted okay. Girl, if I had done that so late at night, I'd have forgotten where I put it!!!!
Hey Meiyu,
I'm supposed to be organized enough to send you reminder postcards????? That may be truly beyond me, however dedicated I am to the blossoms. Gee, I guess I'll try, but I can't imagine how I'll manage.
All the "PDB Pictures" Forum threads are titled by the name of the plants -- I didn't see anything like "after all this time." I looked. Anymore ideas about where to find this desired vine?
I remember Kell's thread. That was a different kind of Allamanda than I have, though the bloom is the same color. Hers is more vine-like, and the flowers are larger -- very much like Mandavilla flowers, only yellow.
My Allamanda is technically a vine, but it looks more like a shrub, and has smaller flowers, but thick clusters of them at the end of every branch. I haven't tried rooting this one yet, but I was planning to air-layer it. Maybe I'll try both.
Roz -- I've got Burgundy Ducksfoot and Ducksfoot Yellow, but now they are calling everything a ducksfoot. Ducksfoot yellow has exactly the same form as Kiwi Fern -- so is Kiwi Fern a ducksfoot???? I'm almost sure they are calling India Frills a ducksfoot. None of them is more appropriately named than Burgundy Ducksfoot though, which looks quite different from all of the others. I loved tiG's Fright Night (probably classified as a ducksfoot), which she just posted. But at the top of my list of coleus in this category would have to be Sparkler, which I still don't have.
Why do you ask? Do you have ducksfeet to share?
There was more discussion about the round-leafed coleuses that I want, and I still don't have any of those, besides Tilt-a-Whirl. A couple of people are assuring me that, one way or another, I will get Kaleidoscope. So, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. The other one I want is a nice yellow version of Diane's Gold (which will have too much green if you are not selective). Then, just to have a complete set -- Flirtin' Skirts.
I got a huge lot of new cuttings this weekend. I made friends with a nursery owner who might want me to grow some specialty coleus and taros for them and she told me to go around and take all the cuttings I wanted -- and handed me a GARBAGE BAG! I filled it half full!! ... made a complete spectacle of myself. The cuttings have been steaming for a couple of days now, so they are probably ready to plant. I had better get some of the rest of the night's work done so that I can get to that in the morning ... or so that I will be awake at all in the morning.
We also had a very old nursery go out of business on Saturday -- very sad -- but I got tons of supplies. So, I have to square all that stuff away. Sheesh. I gotta go. See y'all.
Rik,
I have something similar to Diane's Gold but can't find a picture of it anywhere. Mine has the same mottling without the tiny bits of red in it.
You are lucky to be able to take the cuttings. I would have been as happy as a kid in a candy store. My neighbour across the street has 3 varieties of coleus that I don't have and she promised me the plants in the fall to take cuttings to propagate for her and I can have the rest. She also said I could have all of the geraniums because next year she's going to put in the coral ones instead of the red.
I just figured out how to root sweet potato vines. I took cuttings and placed them in a sealed bag filled with water and them formed roots all up the stems within a couple of days. Now I'll have to keep taking cuttings over the winter to have lots of those. I have the Blackie and the lime green one (can't remember the name). I have a Chinese one also, but it is a very slow grower. I guess I won't get flowers until indoors over the winter. Its supposed to have a beautiful tulip shaped pink flower.
rik, it's in the photos forum, not the plant data base. although i also want the yellow allamanda, the vine i was almost willing to trade conor off for is a red flower. i have an idea. email me with the plants you want, and i'll save it in my filing cabinet, then i can send you pics of whatever you want to see. windsurfer told me the vine i wanted, corkskrew? is in your list...
joydie, i have what i was told were sweet potato vines, 4 kinds...i just put them in water, and they began rooting the second day? maybe t hat's not what i have? ones light green, ones dark green, ones a deep wine/purple color, and ones green and white with purple tints...i'll have to ask jim again what they are tomorrow, but they're beautiful and i haven't killed them yet, so, that's a plus.
Meiyu,
Thanks I have them rooted and took more cuttings. I can't find any other varieties here. The Chinese one I bought the little tubers from eBay last year. I know there is one lime green one with a pink edge, and a purple one that has heart shaped leaves called Black "something or other" can't remember the name. I don't have a dark green one or a green/white with purple tints so I have no idea what they might be. Can you take a picture of them so I can see?
I'll have to get busy and make lots more cuttings of the ones that I have so I'll have plenty for next year's hanging baskets.
Ciao.
joydie, i just got a new digital camera today...conor dropped my old one skating and split it in half! but my battery will be charged by tomorrow, and i will try to figure out how to work the darn thing and take a picture of all four of the ones jim gave me. i just stuck them in water, and they began rooting right away! they're all beautiful, i can't wait to decide where to plant them. he's bringing me more clippings tomorrow. i can send you some, if you like them. i'll email you with the pics as soon as i get them.
I'd love to see pictures of them. The tricolor with pink sounds intriguing. I checked canna pods and they still aren't ready yet. Remember our zone isn't as hot as yours and our spring doesn't really start until late May here as that is our last frost date. The baby plants look like they are getting ready to flower any day now. I'll have get my brother to dig the plants up and let them finish blooming indoors. I don't want to miss any blooms.
good idea, joydie1...my daughter's doing her pepsquad stuff at a school outa town a bit, and son is at a friend's editing skating videos, so no help on the vine pics today. gonna go watch katie's first performance, so will try again tomorrow.
Hi all,
The sweet potato vines, Ipomoea batatas, are named Marguerite (lime-green, ivy-shaped leaves), Blackie (dark purple, deeply lobed leaves), Ace of Spades or Black Ace or Black Heart (purple-black heart-shaped leaves) and Tricolor or Pink Frost (green, white and pink ivy-shaped leaves - can't take strong sun).
One of the nurseries I frequent was doing some serious pruning and gave me about a bushel of cuttings of these. They had been in a pile for a couple of days and were all sprouting roots -- so, rooting these doesn't seem like rocket science.
Joydie -- You know I'm interested in any round-leafed coleus, but Diane's Gold has no red in it at all, just green and yellow ... ? I wonder which it could be.
You are right -- I was like a kid in a candy shop when I was turned loose to collect cuttings from so many coleuses. I even found a very interesting sport of Pineapple Sun that I'll have to tell you about sometime.
You are lucky to be getting three new coleus from your neighbor. Let me know when you find out what they are. Anything new and interesting along with your mystery round-leaf would certainly be worth a trade.
Rik,
Hello again after your absence. I found another little tiny sport off of Inky Pink. It has very small pure chocolate brown leaves that are round. It isn't very big so it will be awhile until there is enough to propagate. I've another one now also. Its producing the sport "Dipt in Wine", but I can't find any pictures of this one. The plant is huge-about 2-3 feet tall with very big leaves. I was out for a walk and saw this one in a garden bed. I boldly knocked on the door and asked the woman if she could remember where she bought it. We chatted for a bit and I asked if I could have a cutting from it. She gave me a big huge cuttings and I brought it home and split it into 3 large plants. I then removed all the smaller branches to root leaving a bushy crown on the top. I'm growing this variety as a standard. I'll take a picture and post it.
joydie, did you get the pics i emailed you?
meiyu you have to send them again without doing the forwarded email...otherwise the pictures won't open.
just did!!!
got em, thanks.
