This photo should be easy to identify. Once you've heard the answer.
Where are we?
San Francisco??
Yes the Golden Gate Bridge. This photo taken from an old military base that is now closed. There are still silos here installed during the cold war. To reach the base cross the Golden Gate Bridge and get off the first exit. There is a tunnel to look for that takes you under highway 101. The tunnel is one way with red and green lights for direction. This is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, a wonderfully preserved land, if not designated, would be full of million dollar homes. I remember when the Congressman from this area pushed it through for passage in Washington. What an uproar about how the land should be private (developed, stripped, choked) vs. preservation of something priceless.
The entrance to the Bay Area from the Pacific Ocean is difficult to photograph; many days shrouded in fog. Summer days can be thick fog til noon, with the fog rushing back, in the late afternoon. Always cool at the entrance because the water temperature never reaches 60 degrees.
San Francisco and the immediate surroundings is a treasure of photographical opportunities. We lived south of here by 2 hours and tried to spend either Saturday or Sunday in the city. Its that special.
