a problem with squirrels

Mount Dora, FL(Zone 9a)

Hi everybody, can anybody tell me how I can get rid of the
squirrels in my fenced in yard. I really don't hate these
critters, but I think they are the ones dropping fleas and
my little (13 lb. terrier) is picking them up and she seems
to have an alergy to them. Has been scratching, licking,
and biting to such an extent that she is bald on her hind
legs. She is on a monthly Revolution treatment, which is
supposed to kill any fleas, but before they die, they bite,
and she goes crazy for many days with the scratching for one
bite.

I have recently had the yard sprayed by the local bug people
and I also bought a trap, and actually caught two squirrels,
which I took for a ride and let go in a wooded area about
a mile away. However, for the last week, the squirrels
seem to be avoiding the trap.

Any other ideas out there that I can use??

Not knowing how big your property is...whether or not if you have bird feeders up....if so that might be the problem with you having squirrels. First, your bird feeders. Cover the pole with petroleum jelly mixed with red pepper. Squirrels do not like the red pepper. Now second. If you have alot of ground, put just squirrel food out in the far part of your property and put hot pepper around where you don't want the squirrels.be sure to provide water for the squirrels in their own area.
Hope this helps

Thanks to all who replied.

I'm going to try everything. Petroleum on the bird feeder, red pepper around the fence border, squirrel food outside the yard and water for the critters too. Will let you know if it works. ;)
