screening under tall trees

Lancaster, PA(Zone 6a)

Hi there, I am a new user and this is my first post. My driveway is built up so as to be flat on our sloping lot, so we have big boulders holding the soil in place around the perimeter of the driveway. Next to the boulders are several very tall pin oak trees that have been limbed up. I would like to plant something to soften the "stalky" look of the tree trunks and screen us from neighbors. There is a 2 ft. wide strip between the asphalt and the boulders. What would be a good thing to plant. I have one hemlock planted that is doing well. It gets filtered light and direct eastern morning light. We live on the border of zone 6 and 7.
