Time to cross brugs.

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

It's been so danged hot I haven't crossed many. Whiskers X Pink Beauty, Butterfly X L'Amour, L'Amour X Jesse Noel, Jesse Noel X Pink Beauty, Versicolor Peach X Butterfly, Versicolor Orange X L'Amour, Versicolor Peach X EP, Whiskers X EP, Charles Grimaldi X EP, Rosabelle lost her pods due to the heat, Becca Lynn X L'Amour, Double white lost it's pods too, it had been crossed to EP. Have pods on some that I didn't cross, some on white from seeds. (Karen, the moths seem to really like yours) Seeds on Isabella from ??? moths again. Jean Pasco X EP, CG X EP, Whiskers X EP and Insignis Gold X Versi Orange are ripe now. I think I've picked 50 or more pods already.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

and you've bought the farm it's going to take to grow these, right??

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

HA!! Can't even get DH to lease the lot next door so I can have a bigger green house. Maybe I need to "farm" them out. Now I know why Eric would send everyone seeds, lol. I just worry about my "babies", I might want visitation rights!!

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Really tiG......... so how do the big guys grow their seeds. They can't put each one in 15 gallon pots. What size do they use until they bloom to decide if they will keep them?

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

in the ground. has to be. That's what Eric does and Cala has a huge bed or two of tall seedlings probably blooming by now. Cala, how close are those planted together??

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

About a foot apart if they are lucky, lol. When I started running out of room and still had a dozen to go, they got put in pretty close. I've still got 6 or 8 trays of 15 pots each of seedlings and a seed flat full and still I am planting!!

Grass Lake, MI(Zone 5a)

My goodness Calla you have been busy. If you decide to "farm" some out I will give you a helping hand. Visitation rights is granted either way.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Cala, I thought it got cold there........too cold for seedlings outdoors? do you still have time for a newly planted seedling to bloom?

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

No, too late now. These have been out for a while. Some are taller than me.
Kell, an email is on it's way to you.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

oh I wish you had said.....YOU HAVE MAIL!! I have always wanted someone to say that to me........i know not why! I have begged Liz to do it but oh NO..........she won't! But it has to be done when I am not expecting it and it is real and not a phony deal...........

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Well poo, that's what I started to say. OK, Kell, you have mail.

Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

kell, you have mail.

oh!!!!!!!!! LOL! nah, you don't really, you were expecting it

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

TOOOOOOOO LATEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Kell - you have mail........................
Sorry, my butler only speaks to me.
(Incredimail) My next dog will be called Butler.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Hi Liz, I was wondering where you were tonight! Postings have been flying fast and furious. Glad to see you!

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Kinders here tonight - older kinders.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Did you cook for them??

Cala and Monika, I think it is you two and Kyle, that make all the interesting crosses. For a hybridizers book I keep one (in .HTML). I list the crosses I make. I forgot the dates I made most of them, but I know they are 2002 crosses. *lol* I list full name of the two plants involved in a cross and if I can I put the most real look picture below the names. I will also ad pod pictures and finally pictures of the different types of offspring from the cross (if you all got a camera, so you can send me one *lol*).

Cala, next year it could be fun to cross your Butterfly X L'Amour with my Dark Rosetta x L`Amour. *lol* My dark Rosetta look from pictures like the Pink Beauty (I think it was). I am not sure, but I think that both ´` Amour, Dark Rosetta and Butterfly has RK in the background, so that would be very pink crosses.

Hamilton, Canada

Tonny,
When do you find time to sleep? LOL. You've busy as a bee with all of those crosses. LOL. I would love to grow some of your seeds. I have all that I've received carefully noted in my hybrid crosses book. I'm glad that Kyle and Monika posted the messages regarding keeping careful notes.
Besides, it keeps my mind active and that's good when "Old Timers Memory" starts to set in...LOL.

Joydie, I sleep at night. *grin* But you are right about me being busy. :-)

I made also crosses today:
Hertzenbrücke x L`Amour, Hertzenbrücke x White (aurea x suaveolens) hybrid, Hertzenbrücke x Golden hybrid, L`Amour x Dark Rosetta, aurea Orange x L`Amour, Cumbay x L`Amour, Cumbay x Apricot Queen, Mittagssonne x Apricot Queen, Morgensonne x Apricot Queen, Morgensonne x Apricot Riese, Rose hybrid x Apricot Queen, White (aurea x suaveolens) hybrid x Apricot Riese, White (aurea x suaveolens) hybrid x Apricot Queen, White (aurea x suaveolens) hybrid x Hofwil, White (aurea x suaveolens) hybrid x Hybride K, White (aurea x suaveolens) hybrid x L`Amour, White (aurea x suaveolens) hybrid x aurea Orange, White (aurea x suaveolens) hybrid x Hertzenbrücke.

Now I think I need to rest. :-)

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Seriously Tonny, if you get pods from all of these, where or where are you going to grow them? You will need help with all the maintenance!

Kelley, I already had several inquiries from friends that like to grow some out. Sometimes a particular cross, sometimes not. :-) But you are right about that I will still need all the help I can get. If half of them come true, there will be 36 crosses up to now. I will also winter sow some of them and hope and pray, that some will flower, before the frost 2003, so I can cull most of them again. If not we will have Brugs in the windowsills, on the kitchentable, in the dogs beds and even in the sleeping room. *lol*

I will notify you all on DG and post in the order the pods gets ready.

North Vancouver, BC(Zone 8b)

Tonny - refresh my memory - your greenhouses are how big??

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Hi Tonny,
wish you all Luck with your pollinations!!!
What about your new greenhouse?
Will you get ready this summer?
GL

We probably will have to put the Brugs in the larger pots on the GH floor and then smaller pots on the top of the larger ones. *lol*

We are very close to start building the fundaments. Tomorrow I will move the cats fence in the yard to free the space from the East/south wall, where we will build the first section. Did I remember to show you the spot, Ludger? I think I did. :-) Then the corners or points will be measured, so we can dig out and down to 3 ft. deep to make the basic fundament with cement blended with leca (insulating clay product). Well, its a long story, but I hope that Dave has a building forum, so I can post a little from time to time about it there. (ppssst!!! I had to write this, because I went a little over the line today talking too much of pets here ;-) ) The short is it will be in two modules. The first one on 20 sq-m., which will also serve as entry to both the GH and the house. The next section we have planned to make 40 sq-m. Brug paradise. We had some delay in plans, but the small GH will be finished before the frost.

btw. is your golden aurea you gave me the same as your Avalon?

Brugvalley, Germany(Zone 7b)

Hi Tonny,
it sounds very good with your GH, wish you much luck!.
Yes, you have my Avalon. Please do not use this name, lol, it´s just private. I have this aurea since much years but I don´t know who breeded or imported it. I don´t want to make the breeder or importer angry, smile.

Please let us use "Avalon" only private, I am not allowed to name this Brug.
