I just got an e-mail from Spike. I know why he doesn't want us to talk about this site over there. He considers this free advertising. Here is his msg:

"daves garden" has gotten enough free advertising here to last a life time.

Hey this is great. Spike used to libel my good name by telling people that he banned the words "daves garden" because "that company was spamming their forums", which wasn't true.

After several E-mails by me to Spike, it looks like he's updated his message to remove that. I'm very pleased to see this.

If one reads the Wall Street Journal one will discover that when Pepsi runs a new series of ads the sale of both Pepsi and Coke shoot up at the expense of non-cola drinks.

Perhaps advertising Davesgarden will run up the traffic on both GW and DG at the expense of Yahoo or something.

Gosh, I'll get one too then, for last night's posting - which I addressed directly to a Margaret from NW England whom I've e-mailed from the forum several times without reply and she seemed to be trying to contact me! What if you had a brother Dave with a garden? I got a friendly reminder this morning too about something else - I thought I was special - my God, what a disappointment. You mean you other people got them too -? Well, this is a shock!

So this means if I use my GW trade list on the trade forum here at DG I'm giving Spike free advertising. Guess I should stop doing that and email him to let him know of my erroneous(sp) behavior at DG and no more free advertising for him. LOL, what a weeny.

Ya know, I debated all day whether to post anything on this thread, because I'm actually pretty neutral on this subject - never been Disneyed, never gotten on Spike's bad side. Dave's Garden is one of the websites I linked to on my personal page at GW before I found out about all the controversy, and I've never gotten any grief over it. I know, lucky me.

But what confuses the tarnation out of me is that Spike lets folks like Steve Bender post questions at GW, and use the responses for articles in Southern Living without any mention of GW. Don't get me wrong - I like Steve's articles in So. Living, and I'd do without food before I'd do without my magazine subscription, but if I were Spike, that would tick me off big time (especially if I were wanting some quid pro quo, as he apparently does.) On the other hand, DG is a FREE site, nobody spends any money to come here, and Spike gets his nose out of joint when somebody mentions it? Sounds like some mixed up priorities to me.
