I will do my best Jeanne, to convince that publisher.
Nice to meet you too, Christina. A visitor from Ecuador told me, that he is delighted about the many Brugmansia varieties seen in Germany. Ecuadorian breeder friends ordered several copies of my book. The breeding of Brugmansia is just in the beginning.
Brugie, my alley and I
I just couldn't help myself. These trees are so beautiful. I'd have a kink in my neck from looking up at those blooms all the time, but it would be a good kink.
Everyone's dream of a Brug Alley. Just perfect!
Blame it on Root!
I've never seen this pic Monika....Oh my...it is beautiful! How proud you must be of your gardens!
I too had never seen your brug alley, Monika, it is awe inspiring, if that is a correct term. So nice to see you and the alley. I had no idea one could keep brugs growing for 12 years. If there are holes in the sides and bottoms of the 5 gal pots, why don't the roots go through them. Donna
LOL Donna! They do! That is the idea. Then in the fall you cut off the roots that are coming out and put the pot in a new pot or in a plastic bag to winter as dormant.
What a picture--I havent seen it either--can we all come and live with you? The pic left me speechless!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
That alley was the dream of my life. I tried hard to make it possible to raise tree instead of shrubs. The tree form is still my favorite. The flowers come much better to recoignition.
Monika, that is what I hope Heaven looks like, surrounded by Angels (Angel Trumpets that is).
Monika I ahve shown this to lots of ppl at work and home--you are a celebrity lol nice garden cheryl
Thank you cheryl! minniegrannie, if I ever come to heaven, I wouldnt like to be an harp playing angel but would love to live in a large Brugmansia forest with uncountable masses of fragrant flowers LOL!
May I ask if they (the brug trees) are the only source of shade? I am planning a similar (I hope) alley after seeing the pics in your book and was wondering if any could take full sun. I was thinking if not I will add some taller banana trees to give them a break. I have no shade and had noticed tiG has HUGE trees that give hers some shade (we are in the same zone) Or I could use shade from the house I suppose on one side.....Unfortunately, our builder left only two trees in our front yard and they barely give any shade yet.
Jenks, several of my trees have protection from the hot midday sun, but not all of them. On warm summer days, they wilt, because the foliage is evaporating more water as the roots are able to transport upwards. The flowers last longer, when the plants are protected from the glaring sunlight at least over the midday hours.
Truly impressive! Okay, is this one in your book or am I suffering a bad case of deja vu? Maybe I saw it here before?
Yes, it is in my book. I have more, different pictures of the alley but they are all color slides, which are not easy to scan.
Thank you! I did not see a reply by me on here so was wondering where I saw it. The pic is gorgeous! You know you are an inspiration.
I did lend your book to my Doctor's girlfriend. Turns out she is fluent in German! She truly enjoyed the book and was unaware they were available in so many colors, shapes and forms. I am not sure how many years she has been growing them but she loves them.
Thank you Badseed! I have a very good scanner but sill not good enough for color slides. A friend is teaching me at the moment how to obtain half way decent pictures from the slides. I will post some once in a while.
I am bumping this thread up again! I am dreaming of summer while looking out of the window, watching the snowflakes!
It's snowing again Monika? The weather predictions were right then weren't they? I will send you some of our sunshine!
I hope my brugs will grow tall and straight like yours in the picture, but I think I will be fighting a battle with the south Texas wind till they get big. I have a feeling my brug alley will lean to one side.
LOL. What fun to visit you again in Germany Monika!
Cala, someone a long time ago was complaining of strong wind. I remember they posted a pic of how they were supporting their brug trees. I will try to remember who it was. Seems to me they followed Monika's book in this. I think it was someone from Florida who grew lots of tropicals. Exactly whom escapes me.
Wow Monika I could get lost in your garden for days. lol It's beautiful.
I agree Peggy! Lost with a pair of clippers!
Kell I didn't know you could read my mind. lol
I can Peggy and sometimes I blush!
I love this picture Monika. What a great looking alley. Still wishing here.
I have a metal detector at my garden gate LOL!
Yes Susie, the weather report is always right, when it concerns bad weather! Shirley, at the moment, my garden doesnt look very inviting. No crocus or Primulas out yet!
Hey Monika and Peggy!! I have crocus blooming today. Peggy, remember your crocus picture you sent me? Must have had some affect on mine. Wait a minute, I'm not sure who sent me that picture, maybe it was Roz. Short memory here..........LOL!
It was me Shirley. You said you wished you could see your crocus. I am glad they are blooming now for you. Kell guess we better forget the clippers then if she has a metal detector.Wonder if they make plastic clippers? lol
And I hear Frank does a strip search on all visitors as they leave!
Kell, we would be in big trouble then! Caught red handed stealing cuttings from all of Monika's trees! Think we could take Tracey and Peggy to distract him while we climbed the fence?
I'm going to get out my Monika Book and find that part about staking trees. I have a feeling I'm gonna need it!
I found the thread Susie........ http://davesgarden.com/t/377926/
Bumping for TamTam,this is Monika, and I am on an orange kick.I don't know how I missed this one.
That is a great shot. If I could only be a tenth as good at growing and hybridizing brugs as you, Monika, I'd think I was top notch. LOL!
Brugie, you are Top-Notch!
Bonnie
You beat me to it Bonnie! LOL
I agree.I have seen Shirleys Brugs,Oh someday.....
You guys are too nice. I can grow them, but I'm at a loss when it comes to doing the great hybridizing that Monika and some of the rest of you can do. I do love growing your seeds though.
*bump
Good Bump Scoot!
