Newnan, GA(Zone 8a)

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Thanks Bonnie. I'm resigned to not worrying about it anymore. Can't do anything to change something I have no control over. Right now it is raining cats and dogs. Just what I needed, more moisture. :-) I'm tired of mowing the lawn too, and this just insures that I'll be mowing for a few more weeks. Oh well, could be doing worse things.

Woodsville, NH(Zone 4a)

We're all with you Shirley. Like tiG said whatever you lose I'm sure between all of us we have it. Hang in there. It will get better.

Lima, OH(Zone 5a)

Things could be worse, at least you have your health, be thankful for small favors. It will get better, can't get much worse. Couple days and hopefully it will all be behind you. Best of luck!

Angleton, TX(Zone 9a)

Shirley, so sorry to hear about your plants. Like everyone has said - -between all of us, we can replenish you with anything that you need. Also wanted to add that about a month ago, the same thing happened to a couple of my brugs. One day they were fine and the next day they were rubbery. It was after several days of heavy rain and then the sun came out and the heat was intense and these were in full sun. I have seen this happen to tomatoe plants and I just assumed that they were steamed to death. I took cuttings and then cut the plant down to about 5". I now have shoots coming from the base of the plant that are about 1' tall. I don't know why it happens to some and not to all. Mine were in the ground in raised beds - there was no water standing but the soil was wet underneath the mulch and also very hot. Hopefully, that is all that is wrong with yours.

Shirley, I just got home from being away for 2 days. I'm so so sorry to hear of your problems with the brugs. I sure hope you find out what is wrong and get it remedied. If I can be any help, email me.

Jeanne, hope everything is okay.

Just a quick note because I'm way behind on my work. I dug up the last wilted brug this morning. It didn't have the little fungal sacs that Cala mentioned, but I did find several holes in the heavy root area as if borers had been there. Couldn't find any worms though. There was no indication that anything had cut around the bark either. That plant looked dead yesterday, but when I got up this morning it was perky. Two hours later it was totally wilted again. Just decided I better dig it up and check. Took three big cuttings and have another one anyway, so I'm covered on this one for sure. Now, just have to wait and see if any others pull this same thing on me. Okay, I'm off to clean the blackberries. Have a good one. Thanks everyone for you concern. You are great!!

Eyes, things are looking okay at this point. No more deaths in my brug garden. Thanks for asking.

Brugie, if you touch the roots, does the sheath(outer covering of the root) come off at a touch? It could be pythium. That's how something with pythium acts, it will wilt in the sun, perk up during the night and eventually die. We use Ban Rot, Chipco or Subdue Maxx for it. I have a couple of brugs that were doing just as you describe, didn't have a chance to dig them up before I left but should be home Sunday night.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

Cala, what is pythium and how do you catch it? Is it just a brug disease?
thanks

Deep South Coastal, TX(Zone 10a)

Kell, it's a fungal disease. It attacks the roots. It's possible to transfer it on your hands, contaminated pots or tools or for it to already be in the soil. It can attack any plant, but some are more succeptible than others.

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

sounds gruesome! but at least you have a cure......... or are those just to control it in the soil?
thanks

Chariton, IA(Zone 5b)

Cala, that is exactly how it was acting, but the rot had gone deep into the stalk. Everything is okay at this point and I'm not having any more wilt at all. Even the Pink Beauty is standing straight. Thanks, I'll keep these fungal meds written down in case this would ever happen again.
