How do you plan.

Alfred, ON(Zone 4b)

a new landscape, garden.

my DH is almost finished with the fillup, the topsoil is next.

Pretty soon I will have to know what I want.......HELP...

How do I do this?

Do I make drawings? or do I start on one side???
I try to post some pictures soon.

what plants do I choose...... I am totaly new to this *LOL* I never had a nice landscape or garden.

the only thing I know is I'm going to plant a weeping willow. put the rest!!!!!

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

I have a huge garden-It use to be a field. Its a square(4000sq ft)I tilled it up and then started walking sliding my feet making a path here and then one there! A focal point here and maybe there,if i sat here on a bench i can look over there and see this!
As Barney would say "Use Your Imagination!!"
You can always draw plans on paper first if you want-i just found it easier for me to be there in the garden and "imagine" a path or a focal point!
Good Luck on your planning!!! its lots of fun!

Laurel, DE(Zone 7a)

I couldn't agree more, I found the best way is to go out there sit down and start dreaming. Find your most comfortable spot and work from there. Do you want a lg or small sitting area. Do you want several paths narrow or wide. Do you want the path/s to lead to a special/secret area perhaps through an arbor? Look at the pics here at DG and use some established gardens for a few starting ideas. Sounds like fun to me, better go get me some more property!
