My 1st layering!!

Huntington Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I can't believe that it finally worked. I have a variegated Abutilon vine that I bought last fall. It has done beautifully and I get so many questions about it. I tried to look for seeds, but there wern't any, and I had one very low vine near the ground. I layed it on the ground and put a small rock on it and totally forgot all about it. It's been a few months, but today I was weeding that area and I remembered it. Sure enough, the vine rooted. Well, I cut it off the mother plant and pulled down a few more small vines and put the darned little rock back on. I hope I remember to check it again next month.

I have a cyber garden friend that I had promised this to, if it rooted. She is going to be so happy.

Oh that's so cool!! I'm waiting on my first layering to see if it worked. I'm trying to root a clematis.

I tried doing a clematis for Horseshoe but it didn't work - :-( - but hey, I don't think that vine knows how stubborn I am...I'm going to keep trying - LOL

I've had success doing this with azaleas, too. That's the only way I've been able to propagate them, so far.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

I think this is the easiest way by far to root most things. You don't have to worry about keeping those cuttings moist since they get all the right food from the "Maomma" plant. Have been doing this for years with Rhodies, Azaleas, Jasnine, Hydrangeas, etc.
