The Verbascum are seedlings. The Heuchera are started from tissue culture.
Verbascum and Heuchera
Very healthy looking plants you have there!
Do you do your own micropropagation?
The Heuchera are from a class held recently by my garden club. We went through each step and at the end of the class, got to take many plants home. http://www.theprimrosepath.com
What an excellent opportunity!
Wow, those heucheras are magnificant! And what a wonderful garden club you belong to. I would love to find out about tissue culture, but I have no idea if anyone around here even does it. Maybe something to find out about...
are the verbascum seedlings?there is some that I tried to start from seed,no luck.I went to the farmers market and a guy was selling them....20 bucks a plant!I actually went back to get them and they were gone!He said out of 100 seeds only 8 germinated....just curious if that was a true statement
CC, the only verbascum I had trouble with was from T&M and it was the apricot one. The others germinate really easy, just sow them on top of the soil.
Yes, for sure, give them a try. They really make a statement with their long blooming period.
As far as plant tissue culture goes, several pieces of gear must be acquired or made. This project would be easier if two people were in on it.http://www.kitchenculturekit.com/Index.htm
The transfer chamber is the most critical. An old aquarium will work. Turn it on it's side and seal the top(which will now be a side) with plastic and cut hand holes. Everything MUST be sterile.
Can ANY plant be propigated that way?
CC, probably. All plants have a meristem and that's what you use. It's also the only way to germinate orchid seeds. There is a place called Orchid World in Orlando not far from Disney that has a neat little lab set up and you can watch thru a big glass window.
