I,ve sown some tree ferns in my propogator, and the green stuff has come up on the top of the compost. I,m not sure what to do next ? anyone any ideas ? at what stage do the ferns appear, how big do i leave them before i can transplant? any help would be appreciated.

Hi,
I've just sown some treefern as well and did do a bit of investigation.
Spores are either male or female so first you should see a layer of green layer stuff (not very scientifical, I know)
In that layer the sperm swims to the egg, etc (you must have heard this story before...........)
Sounds like yours are in the swimming stage, lol.
After that the actually fern is starting to grow.
You can transplant them when they are somewhere between 6 and 50 mm high, depending on how closely they're growing together.
