Saving us from Monsanto..

Marsh and I are on another list that is involved with bio tech issues.

Just wondering if folks on this list would be interested in
some of the issues that come up, where a right in or web
response might help turn the tide.

I say might, Last year the issue of Bt corn was brought up.
Over 3.5 million americans wrote in, but gvt did nothing
almost.

The St of Michigan saw this and put a 5 year moritorium on Bt plants. It helped some. Frito lay is now trying to get enough non-bt corn for their products. Some corn processors
are now having seperate mills for Bt and Non-bt corn.
So that they can sell to EU and a bunch of other countries.

Some places non-Bt corn will paid 40c a bushell more than Bt corn.

RUR is being to raise it's ugly head..

Than there is an item I read about Bt corn. 20% more will be planted this year in areas that do not have a problem with the ECB. But the farmer want to be on the safe side. So now we have sales reps selling the farmer's GMO that they do not need. And we will have more species become resistant to Bt as more acres are planted in it.

Byron, are you asking for some sort of internal polling on issues, the results to be sent on to appropriate governmental agencies?

Ohiorganic is right on. The same mindset has been working with applications of "crop protection material" being used as insurance: "just in case" so as to maximize yield. The excessive use of N fertilizers can be ascribed to the same mindset. Now GM varieties will be used to insure maximum yield for an unstable market with severe anticipated ecological consequenses -- it's madness, right Chooch, !Rock ON!

I would be interested in some site addresses where I can check this out a little more, do you have some handy? If so please post them, I no longer receive Rodales Organic, so I'm a little out of touch w/ the Frankinfoood issues. So glad to see this issue brought up.
