look at this, what ever it is......... you could use the same type construction but to your bigger specs........... it would sell like....... like.......... like...........double pink brugs!
tiG, you could make a fortune!
did you make that???????? I was thinking of this last week, but don't have anything to experiment with.
Pretty Garden.. I wish I could do it right now but have to wait little longer.... :(
oh, and next year, I'm going to try and make some small ones for my plant sale. But sure would love input on what to use to make the above, I must have seen something similar, cause I had the idea in my head already.
tiG, I think I bought it at a heirloom veg nursery specializing in tomatoes in San Anselmo a few years back. They were selling them to grow tomatoes up instead of cages. Made sense at the time. When I was describing to my DH your idea, he remembered I had this. It needs to have wider circles to be a trellis. You could call them Curley Qs, and they could be very tall..... and even a foot wide. they would be great.....towers of flowers. I would buy them! You could stick them all over your border for incredible color! How cool....you have plant sales from your house?
Thanks Mini......but I sure neeed to hose down the walkway!
well, I had one, and then family went crazy!!!!! but next year we're going to try again and if it doesn't work from here, I'm going to the farmers market and try there. I'm going to experiment with some wire and try some short ones of this. maybe with a straight piece welded on the back, hey, DH has a job in front of him!!!
And I am serious..........I go to lots of plant stores and there are no good trellises for the small garden. I found some square ones that were too fancy and too much money were not tall enough. I have all the sky space in the world, it is horizontal space I am lacking!
Kell, I have about 15 of these. I put 3 to a big pot and tie them together through the curlyQ top. They're tomato spirals. I use them for my potted passionflowers. They make them locally here.
So my memory came thru........ lately it is in hiding! But I can't temember how these were better than cages for tomatoes. How tall do they make them Liz?
kell, yours looks really tall, and that's where I've seen them too, as tomato cages. would love to make them out of copper
that is cool...really....Tig, go for it girl!
They're about 6 feet tall - have a big loop at the top. And yes, they would be fantastic in copper, with wider spirals.
mine just goes straight up and has no loop......... should have a bigger diameter to accomadate a decent size vine. Liz can you send me a pic??
I'll take one this morning.
I sure like your chairs -
I buy old ones and take the seat out of them........... I have about 20 all over the yard.......they are fun! I want to do a garden table to go with my garden chairs.......... they are fun also......... I wish I had a huge yard!
This area used to be my vegetable garden.....I reclaimed it this year for a wisteria garden. I have been collecting different color wisteria and training them as standards. I planted 8 across the back and now have about 10 brugs in the front of the veggie garden along with some daturas and ground covers. I have been eyeing the lawn in the back fro destruction but my DH is putting his feet down with force............. I think it will take me a year to get him to let me do as I want................
Kell, do what I do. Just tell him you are edging. Every couple of days edge a little more. Tell him you're just trying to make everything neater. It takes a whole bunch of discreet edging before they notice what you're doing. Somewhat subversive but it keeps the peace and you get it the way you want it. After a while they don't even remember what it used to look like.
LOL Liz......edging....I have to remember that one ........too good!
LOL. That's a good trick Liz. I have just the opposite here. DH went crazy with the tiller and tilled up just about all of my back yard to make room for the Brugs. Now I sit up on the deck instead of sitting in my lawn chair on the grass.
LOL!!! Cute little corner in your world. I love all the pink in the chairs. Everyone keeps giving me ideas, don't have enough hours in the day to try them all!
What an initing sitting area. What a wonderful place to sit and relax after a stressful day at work. Especially love the chairs.
I just bought some of those spiral supports at Lowe's. They are over 6' tall, and came in silver or dark green, $4.95 each. (I'll check out a new one for size and manufacturer from the tag when I get back home this evening, and post it here.)
well pooh!!! I might just have to be saving me some money and getting me some of them!!! Kell, I have a chair with a plant seat, but yours put it to shame, so when I get time, I'm going to drag out some paint and redo her.
Okay... The ones I bought @ Lowe's are "Sturdy Swirl Stake, approx. 74", will not rust..." and made for California Plastic Products, 1200 Valencia, Unit A, Tustin, CA 92780. They appear to be plastic coated metal stakes.
I'll be that soon we will be getting them on sale as the season is mid way down here. I think $5.00 is a lot for as many as some of us need.
Azalea, I agree they are not cheap! However, I only needed a few for some very tall climbing plants that I didn't want on either of the 3 trellis' in the yard. (I think I only bought 5, and they look great with my mandevilla climbing them.) I wish now I had bought the steel colored ones as they make a statement about being garden art as well as being functional. However, I opted for green ones that tend to disappear. Too late now.
For most tall things needing support, I usually just cut some local bamboo...
Thanks Darius.....I found them at my Lowes today after reading your post. I just wish they were taller............
Kell,
Are you still posting? I am off to San Fran and the Hearst Castle this Friday. I can't wait!
weeds
Yes, I am am! You will have a grand time. The Heasrt castle is fantastic. They have about 5 different tours, we just took 1. I can't imagine living like that! Take a look at their gardens.
The pool also is beyond words! Well to be truthful, it all is!
Oh, I can't wait! So excited. I am coming to Ca to fly two kids back from space camp and then will ahve a few days to mess around! I can't wait!
Where is space camp? Well, actually San Francisco probably qualifies!!! LOL You will love it here. Drive along the coast, it is beautiful!
Space Camp is in Florida! I have been to Ca a few times, my best friend lives in East Palo Alto. We have done a few rides that would rival any an the world. This time, the trip is for some relaxation and sight seeing. I do love Ca. The flora and fauna can not be beat. In the south we have to contend with the HOT weather (which I choose). Thankfully, variety is the spice of life. So, wherever I go, it looks different!
Oh my gosh, I missed that! Yes, it does qualify!
Oh my son goes to college in Palo Alto. It is beautiful over there! You will see lots of brugs in flower in people's yards.
I know, I have been there a few times before I was into gardening and said, What is that? and that, and Oh My God that one? I just love it, even thought my friend has no idea what the plant is, I keep asking! In Florida we cannot grow that stuff and I just get sick. I brouht some plants home and - uh - oh - they died. I give up on that.
I have seen some fantastic yards, they are just normal, like it would take me 3 years to make what they have. I am so jealous, but I know I can't have those gardens.
You two are a couple of night owls aren't you? LOL
