How about a Pets Forum?

I really loved the Pet Forum over at the other site. I have to say that I really miss such a place. I have since surfed the web and havent come close to such a replacement ( form wise........not attitude). Would anyone be interested? Would be so nice to speak about our pets..ask/anwser questions in such a nice enviroment at this.

Minnie, you should stop over to the farm life forum (at Daves)Many of us have a mixture of pets, we all love to talk about them. Hop on over and join us! We would love to hear about yours! Lisa

I agree with JustmeLisa, the farm life forum is the place for this.

I would be against a pets forum of it's own. No, I've got nothing against pets. But this is a gardening site. That's why I hang out here. Pets, per se, is a little too far off-topic.

I agree with the above. There may be a day when we spin off a sister-site to Dave's Garden for the non-gardening type of stuff (crafts, stay-at-home moms, etc) but that's a long way off, if ever.

Giving it another shot here. Thinking about how animal stories have generated responses in the General Discussion forum ( just finished the turtle story) Hey, who dosent love to talk about how their dog dug the water out of the toilet and such lovely stories.
I know this is a Garden site, but why cant we give it a shot????
I dont think the Wildlife Forum is the same as a Domestic Aminal forum would be.
This is my last request. If everyone bashes me then I promise never to bring it up again. Promise:)
Anyone????

I like the idea of a pet forum. I was just telling gardenwife today. I like DG because it is not just gardening. You have the general forum, Stay at Home moms forum, several Home forums, Computer talk, etc... People get on and talk about all aspects of there life. That is what makes DG great. Life is more than gardening and I love to hear about it. However if that is how Dave feels I will respect his decision and I understand if he does not want DG to get to big. That would be a nightmare to maintain. But I for one would read such a forum.

I need help naming my pets, and a pet forum would be the best place to start.
My guppy had 42 babys, and I'd like some really cute names for them. But it will be about 6 weeks before I can tell the sex of them, so until them, do you think just numbers would be O.K? I will need 42 numbers appropriate for naming fish temporarily.
And my snails all laid eggs. So I will have about 750 little ones soon. Any suggestions on snail names?
I do think guppies and snails are appropriate to talk about in a plant forum. After all, the snails clean the leaves of aquatic plants, so then they grow better. And the guppy droppings fertilize the same plants.
These plants come from all over the world, and people collect a lot of them, and there are so many books written on them also.
So pets and plants definitely go together and are ideal topics for a plant forum!
We should all take a pet forum very seriously. These little creatures depend on us.

Actually, I'm surprised there is a stay-at-home mom's forum as well as a crafts forum. Yes, people have other interests, and pets are one of them. There are also other web sites, I suppose, too.

I kind of agree with Justmelisa and Brook...this is a gardening site.

On the other hand...I don't have to go to a particular forum just because it exists.

Leave it up to the almighty Dave.

I like the idea of a pet forum. I can understand how some might feel the whole forum topics thing is spinning madly out of control, but wouldn't having a pet forum spare the non-pet people from having to wade through all kinds of cute posts about this and that in the general forum? I would love to hear anecdotes about your pets (how they dig in your garden, maybe?), but I never once thought of going to the farm life forum! I need to broaden my horizons! I vote yea, but will let SuperDave decide and be happy with whatever. :o)

Ok sounds good to me. It's done!

Lots can change in the space of 8 months, and DG has accrued a much more diverse membership. We've all realized that, as Gardenhubby points out, DG is a place to talk about lots of things, not just gardening.

Ditto MzM,poor Dave'thanks:D

Thanks Dave..I must say that a pet forum is wondeful. A good example would be my pomeranian puppies. I had talked about them here and lo and behold..Quyhn stopped in and bought one..small world..

It's cool here, like we are sitting in Dave's Garden together, in the cool shade of a perfectly grown tree, admiring the hostas and coral bells there beside us while the glowing lavendar crepe myrtle glistens beside the coreopsis and thai basil scents the air... talking about our lives, who we are, what we love... I like it here. What a great, diverse and helpful/interesting community!

Just my 2 cents.

Please tell me you're not talking about GW, Minnie. Shame on you for going there...LOL But seriously...here's my GardenWeb story, and why I don't go there any more. I bought a new mole trap and put it to use. I went to GW when I caught one after the first day of use. There were tons of posts in the pests and diseases forum about moles and how people were sick of them. So I posted the picture of the mole I caught, still in the trap (dead). The picture was not the least bit gross (in my opinion) and it had a lot of dirt caked around the mole in the trap so it wasn't gross at all. Anyway, about a week later I tried to post some garden pictures and I kept getting re-directed to the Disney site. I didn't know what was going on. I even mailed the webmaster and told them they may have been hacked or something and explained what was happening to me. I kept trying to post over the next couple of days and had no luck. I sent another message asking for help (to the webmaster, named Spike). I still didn't recieve a reply to my messages about my troubles. Finally I got to thinking about the stupid mole picture and wondered if that may have had something to do with it. I sent another message to the webmaster about my trouble and mentioned that I think it's possible that I've been blocked from posting because of the mole picture I posted...and expressed my frustration and got a little snippy with him in the message. Keep in mind, he didn't bother to reply to my previous 2 messages about the problem. Finally, he replied to the 3rd message and basically confirmed my suspicsion, badmouthed me and told me to go find another garden site to visit. I sent a message to the president of the company that runs the website and asked for a second chance...because I had not even been warned about posting pictures like that and was given no 2nd chance. There were no guidelines posted as to what type of pictures would be acceptable either. Since it was the pest and disease forum, I thought they would be ok with it. I did not recieve a reply to my message. I sent messages to other people I knew on there who posted frequently and asked them to send a message on my behalf. The reply they got back from the webmaster was very meanspirited and again badmouthed me, worse than he orginally had done in the reply to me. He talked about me as being a child and so on...and my email was not deserving of a reply...(the ones I sent to him asking for help with the posting problem). The funny thing is, many of the people I tried to get help from, spoke of other people who were arbitrarily banned as well. I then sent messgaes to his website's sponsors and I got a few replies back that said they had complaints from other people who had been banned for trivial things. I even had one sponsor who said she was pulling her sponsorship because of the repeated complaints. They basically said what I had thought...that his banning of people was very arbitrary and unfair to the members. So now you know why I really can't stand the GardenWeb site and the people that run it. I would expect them to act professionaly and respond to their members concerns...even if the member has done something unacceptable (in thier eyes)...you have to at least make the member aware of the issue and give them a chance to respond. I was given no such chance. So, I therefore urge you NOT to visit GardenWeb.
