We need a thick hedge that will quickly block out trespassing. We would like to be able to control it and it must survive the cold winters of western NC. Any suggestions?
Hedges?
Rugosa roses might do the job.
I am zone 8 in western Oregon and I just planted a hedge of escallonia, I couldn't afford much so I took cuttings from one existing plant in my garden and boy it rooted fabulously for me. This is almost the time to take cuttings. They are evergreen and a small leaf like boxwood but much quicker grower with a tiny pink bloom and will take a pretty good trim. I also have rugosa roses for a hedge somewhere else, they grow quickly too and Burpee's had them fairly inexpensive.
