It is absolutely gorgeous in the springtime when it is covered with fuchsia colored flowers and berries. It is especially nice when planted next to a dark colored shrub. It electrifies the color of this beautyberry.
Japanese Beautyberry, 'Zhou Zhou Fuchisa'
Very pretty, Shirley, but is it heat and drought tolerant?

Since you also live in zone 7, you know that the summers get mighty hot, it was 95 degrees here today with high humidity. It doesn't seem to hurt the plant one bit. I mulch it very heavily to help retain the moisture in the soil.
However, I wouldn't call it a "drought tolerant" shrub, since I do water it about twice a week.
Have you seen the Japanese Beautyberries growing in your area? If your local nurseries carry them, I think they would be a good source of information plus, you will get some local growing tips for your area.
