Does everyone have dreams

Of their spring/summer garden dancing in their heads? We can grow a vegetable garden year 'round here. Right now I have growing: strawberries, cabbage, lettuce, garlic, carrots and broccoli. But my favorite is tomatoes. I can't wait for those wonderful jewels to ripen. I just can't get enough! What is your favorite veggie? What is your favorite variety? I love the Romas and also the Creole. Merced is fast becoming my favoite as well.Bye! Lisa

Dreaming of what I am going to plant and where. is what gets me through the blah!!!!Winter Months. We have long cold winters here, and this one seems to go on forever. By the calendar it has just started. I am going to try the winter seed sowing method, so I will have more room in the greenhouse when I open it in March. My DH doesn't know it yet, but I need a few more gardens. HEHE!!! I think he suspects. Debby

Honey, I have dreams of ANY garden dancing in my head! The whole thing is frozen about 8 inches deep. The seed catalogs help me keep my sanity in the winter, they are strewn all over the house. Open! I want to try some Roma tomatoes. I grow Early Girl every year. In my climate short season varieties are essential. I start tomatoes and squash in pots in the basement about April 7, the cabbage, brocolli and things like that go in a week later. I have lacked space to let things get very big and therefore needing larger pots, but last summer I got a table and more grolights so I can expand this year. It can frost as late as mid June or as early as late Sept. here but thankfully usually doesn't. Even giving butternut squash a 6 week head start is not enough some years to ripen it so it will keep through the winter in the basement. Then I have to cook it, mash it and freeze it. Our cool nights are great for sleeping but slows plant growth. You have it good down there but I am sure it must have it's drawbacks. No place this side of heaven is without some problems, probably traceable back to the Garden (of Eden), and the curse of thorns and thistles, which in my mind also says bugs and disease! I can hardly wait for spring! My favorite vegie? It's a tossup between corn and tomatoes!

My dream is of butterflies, wildflowers, and easy-to-maintain gardens. This year I will be adding to a new butterfly and wildflower garden. My Buddleia weyeriana Sungold exceeded my expectations and lasted well into November with blooms. The kids loved the butterflies all summer long, too. I am planning on making more starts of this bush and using them as a backdrop instead of other bushes I had chosen. I will be trying more native grasses and have lots of Little Bluestem plans. I made some mistakes in the perennial garden so I rearranged on paper my new plan for the Spring. If I had the room, I'd have a veggie garden but my rabbitry takes over a large amount of property here. I saw on the craft or handyman forum here at Dave's that someone has trellis plans..gotta get those..lol. My wish is to grow some flowering vines on trellises along the sunny driveway side of my house. Don't you love when growing space means going upward, too!

My garden dreams pretty much follow the lines of Mary's. My garden too is under snow and frozen solid. I like to try a new variety of tomato each year, but always plant some of my reliable Early Girl. Ace is my favorite short season green pepper. Does anyone have a good short season cantaloupe?

I'm about ready to sow some new perennial flowers seeds under the grow lights. Then later will come the veggies and annuals. I love daisy type flowers, and cosmos.
