Or, "What I did last weekend", lol.
My DH and I built this in two afternoons. I spent part of a third day arranging the rocks and washing pea gravel to go in it, but all in all a quick project by our standards.
Of course, I had been planning (scheming?) for quite some time, and we were lucky enough to have a spot "ready-made" for it. The hardest part was getting the flow of the water right. Below is the finished product - sorry if the pic seems a little dark (when I edit my photos on one PC they look fine; when I open them on a second PC to post them, they seem dark :(
If anyone wants to know the gory details, I've tried to capture step-by-step instructions in my journal here: http://davesgarden.com/editgj/viewentry.php?rid=17399
Next project: building a bog GARDEN to the left of the filter. Have the leftover liner, several plants that would be most happy in there; I just need some peat moss and someone with a strong back to dig it out...
My new bog filter
Looks Wonderful.. Can't see any problems with it not working. Nice addition to your pond.
Very nice!! I'm tired just thinking about all the work. lol "T" :)
Thanks!!!
Actually it wasn't all that much work (compared to other projects I talk us into.) Of course I had DH and eldest son helping lift the cinderblocks and haul the bags of sand. Younger son helped drill the holes in the PVC and attach the fittings. DD splashed around in the bog while we were trying to get the water flow working properly (she's a BIG help, lolol.)
The most tedious and backbreaking part was getting the buckets of pea gravel out of the truck bed, putting them in a sieve to rinse the sand off, and then hauling the clean gravel to the bog garden.
looks great!! this was really a wonderful family endevor!i just printed out your instructions. thank you.
