I have a quest.can you help?

I've been carrying an old brick around with me for years. It says,"Don't spit on sidewalk" and is from back when TB was running rampant. I have always wanted to incorporate it somehow in my eclectic home. Well, I decided to try to find other old bricks with logos, designs, patterns, words etc. on them. I am going to make a garden path with them. I have 18 so far so I have a LONG way to go! Can anyone help? Do you have bricks for sale or know of any? I know this forum is not for commercial purposes but any guidance greatly appreciated!

Your brick could also be from the 1918 time period when Spanish Flu ran rampant. Spitting on the sidewalk could get you arrested then! I did an article last fall for our local historical society newsletter on the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic, and I was floored by the number of people who died from this flu. When it was all over, about 25-40 MILLION people worldwide were dead. By comparison, World War I had a death toll of about 9 million.

Anyway, back to the subject-- We had several brick factories around here back in the early 1900's. Some of the bricks say "Shawmut" on them. We also have some that are stamped "Keystone." I have a Shawmut brick, but my Keystone brick fell apart.

I'll look around and see what I can find for you if you are interested. Shipping costs might be a pain in the keister though.

Dale, doesn't it get heavy in your pocket all the time??? sorry, couldn't resist. I haven't ever seen a brick like this, and the history of the one you have is too neat!!! good luck and if I ever run across one, I'll let you know.
